I've been listening to TMS for 35 years and Swann's the only broadcaster in that time who has made me turn it off.

Some of his fellow commentators couldn't see what was going on when his pipe was at full pelt.
 
Discovered TMS in 1973 in the unlikely setting of South Shields beach listening on an old 1960s radio set.It was the last Windies tour before the speed merchants arrived so their attack was Boyce,Julien,Holder,Sobers and Gibbs (they still walloped us) and also NZ (Bev Congden with his habitual 170s) and have been listening ever since.

Was so lucky to have listened to the 'Golden Age ' of Arlott,Johnners,CMJ,The Alderman,Blowers and the tourist commentators Cozier and the wonderfully miserable McGilvray and even used to hang around til close of play when EW Swanton would summarise the days play....seems like a hundred decades ago in some ways.

Funnily enough they were playing some of the Headingley 81 Test at the last game and Blowers sounded completely different.

How jolly splendid and long may it continue!
 
My first memory of TMS was during the 1997 Ashes whenever I couldn't get to a TV. It was great trying to picture what was going on and realising how easy it was to do with Blowers, Aggers, CMJ and co describing it so well.

My best memory of it was, having picked up a TMS cap whilst watching a championship game at New Road and now always having TMS with me, being on holiday somewhere on the south coast with the family in a place with no telly and being able to listen to every ball of the last test of that series. Spoiler: we won;):cool:

The best overseas series were when we played the West Indies and play would start just after school finished and end just before (after) bed time. Race through my homework as quickly as possible during the lunch break then listen for the rest of the evening. An absolute joy to be a part of.

Just finished Jonathon Trott's (with help from George Dobell) excellent 'Unguarded' and was chuckling when during the 2nd Test in Dhaka he yells at Swann in the slips,'And you can f**k off too you prick'.

He doesnt hold back on Vaughan and Warner either!:D
