Thoughts on Everton's new ground?

For a start its far too big for them, every game all we can see is empty seats.
The atmosphere is crap, the only sound which echoes around that stadium is boos.

Our home fans are very reactive rather than bouncing around with drums and flags during the game.

If there is something to cheer about on the pitch, a crap ref giving everything the oppositions way or we're the underdog / fighting for our lives the home crowd is fantastic.

If its midtable with little jeopardy or we're playing awful football we can be quiet. Mind its like that at most English grounds these days.

Was like that at Goodison as well its nothing new.
We’re quite a like as a fanbase in that regard. It just so happened what we are reacting too on the pitch is arguably the best most of us have had it in our lifetimes.

Thought it was canny average all things considered. The atmosphere was poor, but perhaps that's just down to their fans sitting in silence. That said I don't think the sound seemed to carry well.

The toilet situation was a bit of a joke, hardly any urinals and took ages to get served.

Fan zone/dj outside the ground was canny.
You're not going to get served in tbe toilets mate

Getting to the ground was ok, we got the bus. Approach to the ground looked incredible imo. Outside but was class as others have said, it’ll only get better when they build it up a bit too with pubs etc.

The away end felt half finished I think? There walls were properly finished in parts and the filing looked half done. Felt like they might have rushed to get it done for the season and might go and properly finish it over the summer - might be wrong tho.

The stadium itself pitch side looked unreal, like a Bundesliga ground. The acoustics when Everton scored were proper loud, so assume it could be rocking - obviously today it was f***ing silent for 99% of the time though.

It was ok getting a beer, but the toilet situation was a joke as others have said.

Getting away afterwards was a nightmare for us though. They need to sort that.

Overall facility wise it’s probably up there, and they’ll no doubt love it over time (it’s certainly not gonna be the new West Ham for that!) but as an away fan it’s no Goodison.

RE the toilets, I definitely think there is too many female bogs and they could have put more male ones in.

But I suppose the club had concerts/events in mind alongside football. A Taylor Swift concert for example will have predominantly women attendees. Crap for us blokes but that's the way new grounds are now with FFP/PSR - football matches are not the sole consideration from a revenues perspective.

For me I just let the crowds outside the bogs die down before heading straight down at HT. Still a little wait but far better than fighting in a queue!

I wonder why architects dont design roofs on new stadium's to come downwards like older school grounds that helps keep the noise in rather that it disappearing, spurs the same , seems they depend loads of time on the rake etc and forget it’s the noise that is the importsnt thing in a footee stadium , the fulwell and many others the roof would pitch upwards then downwards again which seems to help bounce the crowd noise down onto the pitch area, and could they not have roofs to overhang more past the pitch line? With tech the roof materials could still let sunlight in , or even retract when the game is not going on, I probably think about that in too much depth tbf

I wonder how much a retractable roof is, I’m guessing it adds a fair bit or a lot of new stadiums would have them. Didn’t the Ajax stadium have one in the late 90s?. They look class and saves on games being called off or concerts having pissing down rain. Bet it keeps sound in too.

Having done 3 new grounds in a week I would say this was my pick of the bunch. Very impressive architecturally, looks very handsome on the walk from Albert dock, looks better when you get closer and the brickwork blended in really well in the industrial area it was in. That supporters area out the front was well done and lots of atmosphere with bars and food options. Internally I think the layout felt very symmetrical compared to spurs and despite being big it still felt compact. Definitely got a thumbs up from me.

When you consider how much spurs etc paid for their stadiums it can’t be that much more as a proportion to the overall cost, millennium stadium has one doesn’t it ?

I think Spurs is a lot better. I felt the HD seemed a bit average inside.
