Thoughts on Everton's new ground?

cheers mate. there's some quite interesting stuff around there. the victoria clock tower is another good one. not so much now but i used to go to seaforth docks quite a bit in the wagon. it's a shithole but some amazing old buildings around there.

The Clock Tower is great, the heritage lobby was massively against HD being built but its brought to life the area that few would bother to go see in normal circumstances. Its easy to forget the Albert Dock was nothing like it is today.

I dont know if you noticed but near that tower work is being done on site for a new park (central park) and a residential develoment / apartments.

Plans below (HD to bottom left) clock tower bottom central with developments around and park further north. The dock adjacent to HD Everton are hopeful of purchasing for its own future development (although I hope the bulk is not filled in as the water looks great reflecting off the stadiums north stands glass window!)

i also noticed on the plaza bit there was some old railway lines.

It's the old pump house for the dock which we've renovated. As you say we also kept the rail lines as well.
Not sure if you noticed but the top of the dock wall is still visible in the plaza complete with capstains and that, the bit were the water was has blue tinted glass so the shape is still very much visible.

i did notice that aye. i'm all for regeneration but i do think it's important to recognise and keep or renovate historical structures/buildings.
 
best in the country for me. Really spacious outside, really spacious inside. No issues with waiting for a beer or to get into the toilet as that's natural for any venue hosting thousands of people trying to do the same thing at the same time.

However it was a bit strange that they had a member of staff stood shouting we can't sell beer once the game kicks off at a crowd of 100s. She was adamant that we wouldn't get into the self serve area in time as we were still about 40 people from the front. Everyone was really confused so I asked the bloke on the self serve gate if that member of staff was right and he just kept saying "no beer, no pints" repeatedly without any context/reason whilst staff behind him continued to fill the tray with pints. :lol:

I walked off to meet mates who had been able to get served. Game kicks off again, I left my mates and headed back to our block and noticed people coming out with pints at the self serve. Trays full of pints sat waiting. That member of staff from before now stood behind the gate shouting once these pints have gone, they're gone. Must have wasted about 20+ pints and lost the custom from the 100s that they chased away and told they wouldn't get served because the concourse was empty when she decided that they could actually still sell pints after kick off.

i thought it was one of the best of the 'new' grounds and certainly better than spurs. the bit outside with the bars/food places were good even though we never bought anything. we walked round the ground and it was great to see both sets of fans mingling-like it should be tbh (apart from them lot up the road)
whilst it was impressive i enjoyed looking at the older buildings around like the clock tower over the way behind the south stand and that big brick building in the middle of the fanzone. might be a bit sad but whenever i see old brick buildings like that i think of the tradesmen who built it, all the craft and work that went into it. don't know what it was or used to be but it was beautiful. @EverBlue86 might be able to tell me about it?
as for inside, we had cracking seats. the music was far too loud and only heard the home fans a couple of times. all in all, the best out of the three new grounds this last week i've been to.

I was talking to a lad from Bishop who went to the hill Dickinson yesterday and described it as a cracking ground with very steep stands so you feel close to the pitch. He was really impressed and said outside it looked lovely too with a huge almost Sheepfolds-style courtyard once you get through the old dock walls.
 
talking to some Everton fans and apparently they are going to rip the toilets out in the summer and look at how the kiosks work.

i like liverpool big enough to be interesting but small enough to care. Worked at the passport office for a while. That area was run down and needed an injection and the HD should be the start of it. Not sure it needed to be so close to the Mersey but that’s where it is. Could do with some decent connection with the city centre but not a bad walk although it wasn’t raining. Everton supporters on the train home said they are going to top the toilets out in the summer

Some great feedback there for me, thank you lads and lasses! Mrs Daveyblue, Louise, Eve and I were back in Liverpool last May for the final game at Goodison. While we were staying in the city, we took a couple of walks along the Dock Road to Dicky Hill and it looked awesome from outside!
Just Eve and I are coming back this time (for the Everton V SAFC game) and your kind responses are whetting my appetite for this game!!!
 
We really enjoyed it.

Parked up near the Titanic hotel, a short walk from Ten Streets Social which was great pre match. Reasonably priced beer and food in a converted warehouse. Similar to the Notts County fanzone we used before Forest away this season.

Walking to the ground there were a few other pre match venues which seemed to be converted from old dock buildings. I imagine more and more will open up over time; there were plenty of empty buildings still, some which were clearly pubs once upon a time.

Really like how they’ve kept the dock walls and integrated them into the entrances. Plenty of stewards around to direct us to where we needed to be and not much of a queue to get in when we arrived 30 mins before kick off.

Concourses were spacious enough and toilets were easy enough to get in and out of. Inside the ground, it's lovely- like another posted said it reminded me of a German ground. Probably not the best game to judge atmosphere but was loud in parts.

Yeah, I thought the location is good. Only about 20-30 mins walk back into the docks / city centre and loads of potential for new bars etc on that route. Pre-match it was less than a tenner for an Uber from Lime Street area to the stadium.

Really canny outside the ground. Cracking view even right at the top

Though wasn’t that impressed with the concourse area - especially the bogs

Also been charged from that automatic thing £27 for 3 items that should have been £16
