Okay in a friendly debate kind of way, using your eyes tell me why exactly we were the best team, in a way you would to a person who hadn't seen the game.

Wow that's a tough one, I don't know we were just better.
Better on the ball, better chances (despite XG" )ooked more comfortable (not at any point did we look like conceding)
I thought (many would agree) we played really well.
I don't give a monkeys what "XG" says.

Awful, you should work for the Chronicle :lol: ,what kind of stat is "better on the ball" :lol:

You are basically kind of saying we had better xG in your opinion, which is true if you discount a penalty.
 
I think of it this way. People were really pissed of cause Le Fee messed up that pen. And when anyone does because it’s a really really good chance. Or when a player puts the ball wide from 2 yards out they’re really really cross. The words ‘my granny could have scored that’. High XG

If Le Fee hadn’t scored that goal against Everton or Mukiele hadn’t pulled a great save from Pickford with a volley. No one would have been saying I could have scored that. Low XG

That’s not say we didn’t challenge the goal keeper more against Everton and deserved to be more goals head. But that’s because of the quality with which our players took chances not how good the chances were. I can’t understand why this is so difficult.

It’s just part of a bigger picture
 
In context of what's its for its good stat

For a league table, load of shite

Player A has 15.34 xG and he has 6 goals, you look at him and go right, he gets in right place, gets his shots on target, you expect him to start scoring eventually

Player B has 5.89 xG and has scored 11, you go well this wont last, and he scoring goals that are flukes per say or shots against a poor Keeper


I actually think its good for strikers and xGA is good for keepers

But theres alot stats which are just shite and there's no point us as fans know them

Precisely

Mukiele’s is a great example. We’re saying wow what a save

But in reality a bicycle kick crowded in the box is an incredibly difficult chance meaning he out performed the xG with a good finish
 
I think xG largely confirms what you see with your own eyes. Are Sunderland a great attacking team if we’re being honest using just our eyes? Nah. The xG also shows that.
 
How do these expected points league tables work? Are they based on results per XG? I.e. we would have gotten 0 points instead of 1 v Man City at home. There are too many stats now, some counteract others like we have a high XG against but then stats show how we successfully reduce the quality of shots which I assume is due to pressing, tackling, hoying bodies in the way etc

I'm sure I seen a expected points table a few weeks ago where us and Villa were in the bottom 5
