This xG nonsense

We had much better chances than Everton. Pickford made a couple of decent saves and mayenda got put through 1 on 1 and put it wide.

I can’t remember roefs having a save to make.

Shows why xG is a complete load of shite.
Hahaha. It doesn't at all.

It takes perception and bias out of it. Everton had the best chance of the match by an absolute mile- the penalty. And we didn't create anywhere near as decent opportunities as your bias thinks.

Whether a keeper makes a save or not makes no difference to xG.

It's some peoples understanding of xG and a weird upset about it which is shite.
A penalty.
The fact this needs explaining 🤦🏼‍♂️

It shouldn't have even been a penalty, does XG take that into account?

Mayenda probably missed the best chance of the game.
You think this is a high scoring chance? More than a penalty?

The problem with xG is that people weren’t brought up on it.

We’re fine with counting corners, shots on goal and shots on target - and nobody points out that these stats don’t distinguish between the quality of shot or the distance the shot came from. We take it for what it is - a stat to try and help inform how the game went. Because they’re simple stats that we were all pretty much brought up on.

xG has came in with advancements in sports science a discipline which, in part, helped us sign some of the players we did in the summer. Eg: A goalkeeper who consistently outperforms their expected goals against over the long term might be worth a look and a visit from the scouting team? They’ll still need to be watched, perhaps even trialed - but bloody hell, why wouldn’t you want to use that sort of statistic and keep it in the proper and appropriate context?

Great post, the geniuses who think they know better than the club who have defied the odds this season using this tool alongside others

No, that's just an over simplification of xG which only someone who doesn't understand it properly would assert.

Like I said, I thought you said you understood it? You clearly don't.
I don't need "XG" to tell me who was the better team.

I used my eyes, you should try it.

I'm not wound up, just a friendly debate.👍
Do you not think that the fact that clubs use it suggests it has some statistical merit?

Nobody is saying it is the only thing that matters or that it doesn't have flaws, it is just another way to read the game.

It was a good chance but I was at other end of ground I thought he was more clear of the defender than that

He was running diagonally away from goal with the defender on his shoulder and a tight angle. I would say it’s less than a 1 in 7 chance of scoring. It needs either a perfect finish or weak goalkeeping.

It's a useful tool, I just think people are getting to hung up on it.

I mean we're getting league tables based on XG ffs.

What's this got to do with my opinion of who was the better team you weirdo?!

Sunderland were quite comfortably the better side.

I have never said anything to the contrary you strange individual.
