This is why I’ll never be comfortable with the model

Difference is Brighton and Brentford use the money to upgrade their standard of player and replacements each time.

We dilute the quality with a load of bairns and go backwards! 🙄
good post.

now go and get a 7 million pound winger(still 12 mill profit as we paid 1m for Clarke) who we can sell for 35 million in 2 years time... that's the brighton model in a very high level, vague way, I guess.

Stewart should have been replaced with a 5 mil striker.
Clubs would have sold for those figures in the championship as they are all skint.

No meltdown after Rossco.
The clever ones knew they wouldn’t replace him adequately.
Pretty sure the same will happen here.
Love a fans fault tho

Stewart also appeared a cracking deal in the circumstances- injury, year left on his deal.

A blind man on a galloping horse can see the issues with this one. If he goes for a straight 20m it's a meh...if he goes for 20m up to 25m then you're thinking yes its probably a good deal. What we're being told isn't even any of those.

Selling your better players to bring in others and develop them. Isn’t this exactly what Brighton have done successfully over the years?

Not great seeing good players go but here we are!
surely in the model it entails getting promoted tho and selling your prize asset after a good start to the season is mental a think , if we sold him in the summer and got someone in fair enough but we’ve got momentum now a just think the price doesn’t match what we can bring in for what we get for him , got no issues with him wanting prem football he was always guna leave imo it’s the timing for me and if we don’t spend some of the money and bring some proven quality in the model isn’t worth a wank to me

It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but feels like we’re the Next Gen Crewe Alexander, and will be for some time. The best we can expect under this regime, is being a yo-yo club like Burnley currently and being a show case for our academy prospects to sell on. Just enjoy watching the lads ply their trade on their way up to bigger things.

Most of us understand that we are going to sell to invest, but not by undervaluing our prized assets.
I can’t see KLD selling for less than they know they can get unless it is forced on them by the players agent or £20m is his release clause fee.
When we signed him £20m probably looked a decent fee

The issue is selling at a knockdown price people say despite the fact we’re going to come away after add ons and future sale with the same money we would had we sold him for 25 mil

Every time we sell someone in the model we have been told the club is operating?

Granted the proof will be how we spend the money but haway let's get a grip
Every time? It was almost overwhelming agreed that we got a very good deal for Stewart. The Clarke deal is a disgrace for a player of his quality with 2 years left on his contract

I remember the bairn being gutted when his first favourite player, Maja, left. Told him about Clarke this morning and he just said he hopes these strikers coming in are good. Less pet lip than grown men on here.

Mind then he had a right strop about not finding his socks.

Players come and go. Clarke is another on his way. I'm more disappointed that we'll not get to see him in the red and white again than the fee, but that's football.

The upfront bit is the only thing to concentrate on now. And after giving Spurs their share, it appears to be about 11-12m. Absolutely scandalous.

Understandable

I don’t think I was too angry about Stewart because I thought he’d be adequately replaced. I think it’s a legitimate concern that we should all have about how they spend that money or whether they spend that money.

But the last time it happened, Speakman etc were unsuccessful and now we’ve just go to sit back and see if they do better at this time…
