This is why I’ll never be comfortable with the model

We are being taken for a ride. We turned the black cats bar into a mag shrine. From that point we all should have done more to hound the horrible little bastard out.
100% this. That was absolutely unforgivable and KLDs pathetic response that he didn’t know what was happening just made it worse. He should’ve been made to put the club up for sale then

Once they’ve impressed sufficiently, if they do, they’ll be sold. Two of them aren’t yet 19 and have a long way to go. The others haven’t been consistent enough, influential enough, or impressed enough at this level yet. If they were all as impressive as some suggest, we’d have picked up a lot more points over the course of the last two seasons.
You can say that for any player though, even if you're in the top flight. Look at how Wolves and Brighton lose their best players.

It's part of football. We're just not used to it because the last player pre Clarke and Stewart we had that was coveted was Wickam!

It’s fine selling Clarke.. the problem is the track record of signings has been pretty poor and the Fee.
If it was 25mil I’d be like fair enough.
Also who we signing my to replace him?

The big problem we have is the gap between the prem and championship is getting bigger and bigger.

Some clubs are now throwing a fortune at players and even if we went up.. we wouldn’t do that.

So the gulf is just going to keep growing until we get owners who will push the boat out

What if that was the only offer they had on the table ? Should they just reject it wait till next summer and get 3 million for him
I'm sure if they did that then you would be on here next summer winging that they should have took 11 million for him this season

Hindsight is f***ing great if you're a football fan isn't it
.btw I'm not a happy clapper or a fan of the owners I'm just trying to see it from both sides
What on earth are you on about? 3 million?
Their options were to offer him a contract extension attractive enough for him to sign (clearly they didn't) or to sit back, invest now to form a promotion winning squad around him in which Clarke would no doubt excell, and watch clubs queuing up for him in January or at the end of next season.
Instead they sell him to Ipswich for effectively £11 million.
It's pathetic.

The model is about to blow itself clean out of the water now

It was at this point Soeakman said the heavier investment would start, when we started pulling big fees for players they’d start spending bigger fees on players.

Over to you now KLD and Soeakman. I think we all know what will happen next
Aye, they sold Stewart for 10 million.

Who did we get in to replace him? Rusyn

IT’S THE LOW FEE HELLO MCFLY

Patronising straw man arguments again we all understand the model cos we aren’t thick. The. Fee. Is. Too. Low.
He's got 2 years left of his contract. If we kept him for another year he'd be worth 3 million.

I bet you'd be the first on here moaning that we should have took 11 million if we kept him for another year

The sales I will struggle with when they happen is rigg, Neil and Patto. The spine of our team and north east squad members. No amount of money can replace them. We will make the same mistakes again rather than concentrating to build a team around them. Toddo and Henderson spring to mind. It’s as if we are not allowed to keep our best players and build. Each team should have to field so many locals and other teams shouldn’t be able to touch them. It’s the only way we will ever get good

Selling Stewart was the best course of action, and anyone who disagrees has rocks for brains. Lad was great, rejected our contract offer then got injured again. Selling him for 10M was absolutely the right decision. He has played a handful of games since, and is injured. Again. We'd all be twisting off on here if we'd blown our wage structure for him, and he was on the physios' table every week, which will have proven to be correct.

Jack is different. i'll be absolutely gutted to see him go, but if he won't sign a new contract, cash in now before his value goes down next year.

Aye it's that simple. We're all experts in football finances 🤣🤣

We've known it for 3 years. We know they want to be self sustainable and sign young talent for peanuts and sell them for a massive profit

So why are some of you shocked and angry ? Has it come as a surprise ? Wether you agree with it, believe in it, it doesn't really matter as non of us can do anything about it.

The biggest thing I take from selling a player for a massive profit is they must reinvest it in to the squad if it makes us stronger then fair enough

As for jack good luck to the kid he's been absolutely phenomenal in a red and white shirt and single handedly win us many many games.

We moved on we've still got a lot of incredible young talent in the squad. The best young talent most of us have seen in decades.

Let's be honest after the poor campaign last season most of us expected many more of our young talent to move on. The fact that the majority of them are still here means we still have e a good shot at promotion

Jack Clarke will never be replaced as he gives us so much as an attacking threat and there's no one out there who will make as much a difference as he does.

However these young lads are incredibly talented and adding a forward or 2 might just make us stronger. Only time will tell. Let's just see how the window pans out.

I'm still super excited to watch this young exciting energetic squad this season.
The fee mate it makes no sense! We must be desperate for cash there is no other reason to sell at this price. Anderson went from the skunks to Forest? For £35 mil !!!!

You’ve convinced me. This is great news and I’m grateful we’ve sold our best player for a fee that has deductions to be made and won’t allow us to scratch the surface of what we need to replace him if it’s reinvested.

(That’s wrong by the way with regards to Wickham. Weve seen us flog young and / or coveted players such as Pickford, McNair, Maja, Asoro, the keeper McLaughlin, Stewart. Other academy prospects were sold off before they had the chance to make their mark).
