This Is Wearside - Poppy Day Display

my German half of the family find it rather amusing England fans are still singing about something almost 80 years ago.

Remember before the 1990 semi Bild ran all the English newspapers on their front page: 'You guys still going on about the war?'

Even my grandad who served in the DLI found it a bit bemusing - and he married a german.
I'm sure the Germans would love the world to forget about it.

It was one of the fellas on here from so37 who got it sorted. He posted a picture of the segregation he took whilst they were sorting out the display, and I mentioned that my seat was covered up by the netting. I think he contacted the club, and they took it down day of the match. The whole derby match was a shambles like. Imagine we'd turned up with no seat to sit on. On a side note, I would've loved the planned big sportswashing display to have happened , but no way was kld gonna let that happen.
That match was a complete clusterfuck, giving them the red carpet, stopping our displays, and then Beale, surrender monkey! Have a go you soft ****! stayed until the end, the only time I have ever fancied being a suicide bomber (thats a joke, to the mod who will be all over this)

open a new thread re the fund raising. Also disable comments on the new thread.

people are using this thread to air their thoughts about the past. They may be right or they may be wrong but I do not think a fundraising thread should be used to bring up old arguments and grievances.

Mistakes were made but that should not get in the way of the fundraising attempt for which most people will appreciate, ex forces or not.

Let the fund raising stand on its own 2 feet, if it fails it fails, but give it a true chance.

at present it is being buried under old grievances.

Agree. This thread doesn’t need to be detailed in this way and needs a fair chance.

I appreciate a lot of the SO37 lot don’t support a Remembrance Day Display but actively discouraging people from donating doesn’t sit well with me.

Do you find it bemusing when folk talk about the slave trade and the people ,families and companies who profited from it ?The german nation during those years were vile and despicable and history needs to remember that and the people, families and companies that profited from that vile regime need to be reminded of it as long as that generation is still alive and beyond. There were no Nazis in germany in 1946 so miracles do happen!

I don't see any one saying they don't support a Remembrance Day Display.

Many people on here believe the club can do no wrong! And that's not a healthy state of affairs!S037 obviously somehow narked the club and they have made life difficult for them ,so much so they quit. The club has a tendency to do stuff ,make little comment about it and let the passage of time dull the the negative responses..SO37 did a fantastic job and are big shoes to fill and these new lot are just not cutting the mustard ..northeast folk hate unfairness at a primal level and the club shitty behaviour to SO37 will linger for a long time and i personally will not be donating to them anytime soon.
this . im contributing to , waving or supporting fek all until FTM is allowed on display. Short of that its the club using the fans

I am all for fans doing flag displays and chipping in. The only thing about this one is it will only be rolled out once a year. I think the club should be doing a remembrance display and let the fans raise money for flag displays that can be used weekly. How well will the flag be kept in storage unlike the other ones, and how many years use would you get out of it ?

It's tremendous what the fan group are trying to do and not knocking them in the slightest and rival flag groups need to knock the bickering on the head. I just think for this situation it should be the club pushing to do it

Really? There are numerous examples.
Just said im not paying the club to look good doing it if they can't let us express our sentiments on other occasions. I've no objection to a display per se so you might want to stop being presumptious about others intents beyond what they clearly state.

1. It’s not the club, it’s a fan group I believe.

2. I’ve said many times that I believe banners and flags should display positive pro Sunderland messages - moaning about other teams/ fan bases just makes us look small time IMHO.

3. Like it or not, there are many people on here who would love to see This Is a Wearside fail -

All that is your opinion dont profess to express mine in future...and the club do get the reflected 'glory' and publicity of socially worthy displays .

Yes it is... hence the use of the phrases "I believe" and "In my humble opinion".

It's easy really - if you don't want a Remembrance Display, don't donate. If you do, do.
No , youre still positioning it in a binary way where only contributing ' absolves' of not wanting a display. Perhaps theres a third position where one might not be against a display but dont feel comfortable endorsing fan funded displays only by the clubs let ?

Ok,

You’re right

It's easy really - if you don't want This is Wearside to do a Remembrance Display, don't donate. If you do, do
