Third Test - England v West Indies (Old Trafford)

I suppose the whole debate, will turn out irrevlant as except us to win, but our approach should certainly take the forecast for tomorrow into the equation.

Agreed, but not entirely pointless as if tomorrow is a wash out as expected then we have given them a chance of salvaging a draw, not that I would fancy them to bat the day out in their current mindset.

Of course you can, in a deciding test that you must win, and the forecast is horrendous which could leave you just one day, to bowl a team out, you push along a bit quicker, of course you do, there is a balance to be had of course between goung ho, and scoring slowly, we need to push on a bit quicker which I think we will do, if still batting by the end of today will have a least a 400 lead, unless bad light, as the players will realise the need to push on.
So you think we are going to be 400ish ahead at end of play which means the openers must have set a good platform surely?

My point is the twisting on here before tea was ludicrous. We can’t just go gung ho in a test match that could still have had 8 sessions left in it.

I think a few on here have forgotten the values of good Sensible test match cricket amongst the carnage of the white ball stuff we enjoy.

They’ve kicked on because they’ve give themselves the platform before tea when everyone on here was twisting on.

Without that platform we wouldn’t be pushing on now.

Exactly how many did you expect us to be ahead at end of play when started batting today?

So they have altered the game plan based on the conditions then? Why else would they be kicking on now?

I still think we'll win the game, just felt we got a bit bogged down in that session against the offies. Glad we've kicked on since tea.

I think it'd be stupidity to ignore the forecast though. If we continued at 2.5 overs for the rest of today, and tomorrows washed out then the tactics would be criticised.

You set a platform then give yourself the option of taking forecasts into consideration. You don’t go out as if it’s a one day game with potentially 8 sessions of a test match to play.

Imagine the scenes if they go off for bad light 9 down

Nobody on the thread has mentioned gung ho, just a few people on the thread and the guys commented on Sky have suggested correctly imo, the rate should have be higher and a bit more positive.

Once again the whole point is they may be only 4 left, however like I said all a bit irrelevant as reckon we will easily.

Then we would have over 90 overs of broad woakes archer Anderson Bess easily enough time

We are talking about declaring today, not slagging off the players.

I imagine so, but with tomorrow almost certainly being a rest day, declaring tonight give Broad and Jimmy the freedom to go 100% for a handful of overs each, then have a nice rest.

No you play a bit more positive as they could only be 4 sessions left.
And they could not be as well. Platform laid, now kick in. Situation played perfectly.

Criticising players who have set the perfect platform.
Seems strange to me but each to their own.

We were never going to continue at 2.5 all day but you have to give a good test match attack the respect it’s due with potentially 8 sessions of a test match to play.

Once platform is set then potentially look at things like forecasts but not before.

They starting to kick on now, so fair enough, just would liked to have a go at them tonight, and could have, I am treating this as day 4 of the match not day 3, always good to have a few overs at the opposition before the last day in this situation.
