The xG nonsense

To completely prove a point how bllx it is.

Brobbeys chance against Chelsea was a 0.33 which is outrageous.

He shoots from 8/9 yards out at a perfect angle and fluffs is completely. Vast majority of the strikers … way more than a 3rd would have scored that.

It was a terrible miss which didn’t cost us but the goal is so open and at the near post. Wilson would score that 99 times out of 100.

How on earth is that a 0.33. Pure made up bllx.

This has happened numerous times throughout the season. Which is why it’s probably made our “xg” worse than it is.

Someone should screenshot it just as he shoots. It’s a shocking miss.

We scored 3 goals against Everton, each one a very good chance. Our XG for all our 7 attempts on goal was 0.71 😂

Brobbey was 6 yards out with only the keeper to beat. Le Fee on the penalty spot.

The 3 goals should have added up to way more than that. Sorry but it's f***ing rubbish if that's an example of how accurate it is.

Pep wouldn’t entertain xg at all, thought it was nonsense. Likewise wouldn’t have a set piece coach until Arteta convinced him to bring one in. Did ok with that City team though didn’t he?

We should have Xb on here for posters ( expected bollocks ).

It doesn't tell the full story and it doesn't tell anybody what they don't already know. We don't create much.

But, what the club have done is built some strong foundations with some good footballers, which is the right way to go about it: get organised and hard to beat first and foremost.

What the club needs to do now is add the players who will make us much more of a threat in the opposition's half. Only needs 2 quality players, 3 at a push. Easier said than done.

Xg should never be used alone it is a factor in part of the game but doesn’t mean everything.

It can give an insight to how wasteful players are etc. or how clinical they are.

Indeed. xG has value as a comparator (it would show Harry Kane is a better finisher than me) but fairly useless alone

According to this we should have finished 3rd bottom

Perfect example of how flawed it is. It doesnt score player positions.

Isidors goal keeper is running towards him. Isidor places it opposite corner keeper has no chance

Yet another match the player shoots with the keeper static in in the middle of the goal. Much more difficult chance yet same xg score

Exactly and who is deciding that. Funny because some games I’ve seen other teams chances far greater than ours even tho it was much harder. It’s made up shite by people who probably have never played the game.. like VAR.

The fact he missed (and missed a sitter later in the game) indicates the chance isn’t all that easy and explains why it’s a 1 in 3 chance
No it’s not a 1 in chance though is it. Brobbey’s finishing isn’t the best. Wilson scores it nearly every time.

If a striker can only score that chance 1 in 3 you’re shite.

I honestly can’t believe you’ve said that 😳

xG tables don't take into account that our team has high discipline when it comes to shooting, there's only really Isidor and Angulo who will have speculative efforts, everyone else wants to be in a great position - by design. Then we are great at restricting the opposition to unlikely shots but plenty of them, which add up.

Both combined make xG models useless with us.

Some truth in this post but Isidor missed loads of his own easier chances last season.

We have not got a perfect forward by any stretch but we do have in combination of what is available a decent forward on at all times. Isidor may well be a better finisher, but he doesn’t create the own goal/brobbey miss by holding the centre half off and playing Hume in like Brobbey did either. Swings and roundabouts at the minute.

But to concur I find xG of minimal use, no 2 chances are the same, not even a penalty
