I placed my ears near the half way line and i'd imagine what you heard on tv is exactly what most people in the ground and around the country heard.
There was no tricks with microphones or fancy editing. I'd go as far to say the MU fans relentless singing made editing highlights with live-time sound almost impossible.

I'm not saying the Man U fans weren't loud but I think the noise the SS made all game didn't come across as loud as it was in real life...
 
To be fair, it's catchy and it's easy to join in with.

The south stand are killing the atmosphere persevering with some of the new songs, IMO.

But that's possibly because you were in there. Next to me were two young children pestering their mam for chips at half time, they came across as loud to me but i doubt anyone else even noticed.

I think if a microphone was placed at the halfway line what you heard on tv would be exactly what it sounded like in the ground to the majority of people.

You know what I mean... I don't get back as often as I'd like but I was fairly surprised with the singing end. Just seemed to be a select group sining along to songs that the rest didn't know the words too.

Not one song took off either. Which speaks volumes.

Probably cos people dont know the words. The more a song is sang the more people click on. Thats how new chants start. Things can only get better and Youre the one for me have been loud during home games and they are both new.

SWC was class at getting new songs off the ground. The SS isnt.

Look at man utd. New song gets launched and two weeks later thousands are singing it (and some of theirs are shite)

Totally agree with that mind.

Just don't think the SS has been a good thing for the atmosphere in the ground. Seems to me like people in their bounce about and sing along, but no one else joins in so the rest of the ground is like a morgue.
 
Problem with a singing section is that it encourages everyone who wants to sing to congregate in one area. What used to happen is that new songs were primarily formed at away games, then people dotted all around the ground would try and get them going at home games. I remember when Cheer Up Peter Reid first started to get off the ground, you'd have little pockets all around Roker starting it, and eventually people started to cotton on.

A singing section then means that the rest of the ground becomes a de facto no-singing section.

I must have been sat near you and I absolutely agree. It seemed quite subdued for most of the night until after Johnson came on really.

On a wider issue 'Wise Men Say' is our best chant and was our anthem really until the move to the SOL I suppose. It was good to hear it get an airing last night but it was sung at 100mph as if they couldn't really be arsed. I wish it would still be sung like this:

I have to agree, I liked it for the derby but now I cringe every time I hear it, embarrassing small time antics

Excellent. Old chants are head and shoulders above the new ones. Also, Norwich got £64,000 for winning the cup.:lol::lol:

I was in a box just off the halfway line last night, normally in the the South Stand. The United fans were loud (not as loud as normal mind) but the SS was just as loud. United's continuous "David Moyes Red Army" chant was probably the loudest of the night but to suggest SS was silent is diabolical.
 
I was chuffed when I heard the Wes Brown song being sung loud and proud until I realised it wasn't our fans singing it :cry:

The problem with the South Stand is that it's split. Half at the back are wanting to stand up and belt out songs constantly, the others are happy to sit and occasionally join in. Even the singers are spilt. Some like the SFG and myself want to get new songs off the ground every now and then and the others just want to sing the Red and White Army, We Are Sunderland etc classics. Then there are one or two who just sing anti-Mag shite.
