their is plans already to extend the ground to 55 thousand and then eventually 70 thousand when the club are ready to do it, will happen in the next 10 years
No it won't. What's the point? We can't fill out now. Lucky if it's full twice a season

Average about 85% capacity over the course of a season either in the championship or bottom half of the prem. Who knows what we could done with consistent top half finishes or European football (not that I see those coming anytime soon mind).

People are pissed off with football
People are skint
People resent ridiculous ticket prices

Attendances will fall everywhere

And they are. Newcastle don't even get 52,000 anymore.

Now where's that waiting list gone?

well whenever the club is ready the plans are in place, so it would be two tiers all the way round

They're not in place. There's potential to put them in place. Been discussed time and again

Could we ever sell out 70,000? Sunderland only has a population of about 170,000. Obviously there is the exiles and the surrounding areas, but 70,000 is a very highly target to achieve.

Could easily happen, all it would take is Short to be bought out by some man city billionaire type- that could happen tomorrow for all we know.

Ask man city fans 10+ years ago about a 60,000 crowd with potential to go up to 70,000 + they would have laughed in your face.

So never say never.

No they aren't, it has the potential to be expanded but nothing has been set in stone.

The ground is about 5k too big for us anyway.

Club had outline planning permission for an upper tier in the south stand but it lapsed a while back and wasn't renewed.

And it won't be anytime soon, unless the club are focusing on maximising concert revenue.

It was a mistake extending the north stand IMO

Any expansion would have to go hand in hand with a "kid for a quid" type scheme. Theres no way full prices will fill the SOL.

Heard this year after year.. and still nothing changes, attendances are good, tickets expensive and people still love watching football

They do. But it's getting to breaking point in a tough economic environment. And unless you can rely on tourists or bankers then you are fucked

This "breaking point" keeps shifting though.. Once it was a farfetched nightmare scenario with £50 tickets that people stated "would reduce attendances to 80´s levels.
Today I see them everywhere.
The truth of course is that the core fans are ST holders and thus pay much less, unless they support a London team Like Spurs, Chelsea or Arsenal

Let's say, hypothetically, that we became successful over the next five years. Do we have the potential fanbase to extend the stadium to have two tiers right the way round? It would look absolutely class. And imagine rivalling Newcastle's 65000....
Wrong place wrong time for this kind of guff
