I might be being naive here, but I’d assume it’s the cost of staffing the event vs takings on stuff like hospitality & bar sales?
Sounds like stuff like the stages etc would already be in place, or have minimal outlay to create due to other events already planned in.

Depends on what's happening. If it's an external events company paying a fixed cost to the club poor sales wouldn't make any difference to what they get, other than putting off anyone doing the same in future.
If the club are relying on a cut or are doing it themselves (which they aren't with Springsteen) it's more risky and doesn't seem to be in line with anything else they do.

Saw Scouting for Girls at a small festival, they were actually very good.
