The plane fly past is back on...

Not read the whole thread, but can I go on record as saying in my opinion this is a terrible idea that makes Sunderland fans look small time and pathetic. Celebrate the 5 wins by all means but whatever you do, don't give them future ammunition by being seen to organise an incredibly cheap and tacky publicity stunt like this.

Stop this now and donate ALL the money raised so far to the charity and I will tip in £10. Go ahead with it and you bring shame on the good name of SAFC. We are better that this surely?

Its a hideous idea that brings us down to their level. Be the bigger man.

Don't think the media will put a positive spin on this either. They will crucify us and it will become our equivalent of the 'boycoutt' and the 'Awab Man', you have been warned.

WTF!! You can't be serious with this???? Grow a fuckin set....your post is fuckin embarrassing!!!

I live down south and all lads I have mentioned this to think its hilarious so I don't give two hoots if the mags think we're twats as long as the rest of the country is laughing at them. Which don't take much with there childish bed sheets and lets get rid of a decent manger shit that is plastered all over the tv every other week

I know where you are coming from but whilst i dont think it will have any impact whatsoever on the Mags, because they are expecting it, i suspect the rest of the country might find it amusing.

I think most reasonable fans will find it pathetic to be honest, because it is. By the time the thing flies the derby will be ancient history.

Tell you what, I bet this pathetic effort is pulled for some strange reason if we lose to Palace on Saturday. That's the last result I want as we desperately need those three points but lets see how this campaign gets on next week if we lose. Like I said I am out of the country on a mini Eurpean tour with my mates from the match all next week after the Palace game so won't be getting involved.

I go to most of the away games and what crops up all the time is 'your fans are better than Newcastles'. Doing stuff like this damages that reputation that is very hard earned over years and years and I care about that because I go away and I talk to home fans at other clubs on a regular basis. We do have a standing in the game and its clearly more down to our fans than our team and our fans are respected up and down the country for our sportsmanship and friendliness. Stuff like this is neither sporting or friendly.

Exactly, because they all recognise them as being deluded, obese fuckwits.

Which is why they too will enjoy it, and not as you say, ridicule us for it.

The thing is, if the people you talk to at these matches are going to judge you on one action perpetrated by other people, they aren't worth worrying about anyway surely? You are acting like fan reputation is the be all & end all in life. It doesn't matter one jot

If you go to most away games (and avoid the pubs that most Sunderland fans go to) as we do, because we enjoy engaging with the other teams fans, you will realise how well respected Sunderland fans are up and down the country. Our fans are our biggest asset and most other clubs realise that and respect us.

I will agree with you on 'embarrassing' Its just the context that we differ on;)

yes and that's excellent. I've experienced it myself. But I have 2 issues with your whole direction of point:

1. If we are so respected, a joke about a plane isn't going to make a difference
2. Even if it did, why does it matter so much?

Surely the MOST you are gonna have to deal with is someone saying "that plane thing was stupid mind." What are you expecting to happen if fans around the country see this plane in the air, don't find it funny, and decide that we are no longer worthy of respect? I don't understand people who think that way, like one little thing like this will change their lives

Err no. They will see this as us stooping to their level or below. This is the crux of it. Those of us in the North East see it one way, the rest of the country sees something different. Sadly many outside the North East have bought into the media image of Newcastle being an attractive side to watch. Do you honestly think they are all going to switch allegiances to us because we paid for a plane with a mildly irritating slogan on the back that they don't even understand anyway?

It will just confirm their belief that NUFC are the team to watch in the North East.

And for once, they will have some justification (and photographic evidence to boot).

It will become our 'horse punching' moment.

Its a rivalry, one of the best....this is what makes the games so great, the stomach in knots, the suspense as every minute ticks off the clock as well as the jubilations and heartache with every goal scored....if you can't handle it or are too scared then get a dog and lock your doors...but don't ruin it for the rest of us who enjoy the DERBY'S and the Rivalry!!!!!

Actually mentioned this to sum mates from nottingham who are forrest fans and they think its a great idea and im sure other people who have mates around the country who support other teams will find the same

Ok, I hate the stupid SAFC v NUFC thing, I hate the derby games and I find this sort of pathetic 'banter' to be intolerable. The complete obsession of both clubs with each other is not only annoying its detrimental to both clubs.

Come on let's just stop this now, nobody is changing their opinion because you keep repeating things that they don't agree with. You've made your point as a few others have on this thread just move on.

Oh do fuck off man, everybody hates them, look at the banners at Villa when they got relegated.

The country as a whole have them sussed for what they really are, deluded wankers.

that is fair enough, you are allowed to feel that way. When fans get annoyed and obsessed with each other, it becomes embarrassing. When the 'true geordie' bangs on about 'fuckin mackems' in his videos he sounds like a child, but not everyone acts that way. Most people take the rivalry as a fun little distraction. I don't HATE any mags, some of my best mates are mags, I just like to take the piss because it's football and it doesnt matter. So in that context, for me I dont see the problem with the plane.
If you care about 'SAFCs reputation' and our perceptions to other fans, then yes maybe you should not like the plane, fine, but everyone's problem with how you are going on tonight is the extent to which you are contesting it. That's the point

It will make us look small time though. Nee doubt about that.

Sunday was only detrimental to one club and it wasn't ours :)

The passion at the derby games is one of, if not the only positive thing the media ever has to say about us.
