I was a PL fan first and not really a fan of any club. Watched games in US on Saturday/Sunday mornings before the US sports would come on. In the US it’s rare that managers or head coaches quit mid season. When Keane quit and Sunderland were struggling to stay up, I started pulling for them to stay up. After the season, I was all over the internet trying to find any info I could about SAFC. A fan was born.
Welcome mate we are a broad church. However, in supporting Sunderland AFC you can never, ever be described as a glory hunter. :)

People from the NE that support Man U, Chelsea, Liverpool and the like are just mentally weak people imho.

It was easy when I was a bairn. Born in Sunderland, you supported us. Born in Newcastle, you supported them. Born somewhere like Shields, you supported whichever team your family did. No questions to ask.
Born in North Yorkshire, moved to Lumley where my dad was born, moved Wallsend for dad's work....starting supporting the lads...happy days! Played for Wallsend and Wallsend Boys Clun....red and white through and through!

I think people on this thread have different ideas about what is meant by 'get the club'. Some are seeing it as what fans want, others are seeing it as what the culture of a club is. I agree that all fans want to see their club winning, and so are the same in that respect. However, there is a difference in culture. We were a very successful side until WW2, then we were the Bank of England Club, then from 1973, we were the plucky underdog who upset the odds. All of those threads weave into the fabric of our culture. Its an ever evolving thing, and our culture is being shaped by whats happening now.

Both werking klass lerds from Industrial areas ye tattie.....
Witney, the industrial heartland of the South, erm rather not. I suppose Charlie Methven does come from an estate, a one similar to his mate Dave Cameron. Charlie is some boy who is very well connected; an old Etonian as well....same year as Cam & Gideon at Eton? Lads, we really have got some seriously wealthy support in place, and the new manager will realise this. Now I actually think we will win League 1 at a canter.
