You’d rather ex players do well for England than current players for Sunderland ?
No i think theres nothing better than people from my area doing great things for their country.

Hendo is from right next to me its amazing to see what he’s achieved

Yeah it’s great.
I grew up near Steve Cram and was amazing watching him become world champion.

They're Sunderland lads not SAFC lads. While I like them to do well for England I don't give a toss how they play for their club sides.
If Jewison Bennette had have scored I'd have been doing cartwheels as he's a SAFC lad.
Fair enough

Did you see that the lad Newcastle signed from Australia nearly scored as they went out?

The Local news will lead with that.....

The young lad has han interesting life (he's only 18) to be honest 🤔

Garang Mawien Kuol was born in Egypt to parents. His family had fled war torn Sudan, staying in Egypt for a year, before they moved to Australia as refugees.

Perspective please. Too much emphasis is put on heritage when it comes to football players. Yes Jordan Henderson and Jordan Pickford are from Sunderland but they no longer play for Sunderland. Football is a sport of clubs. Not homes. Southgate picks players based on their club, not on where they are from.

Football has a horrible habit of taking you far away from home. Once you are sold by your hometown club and the club that started your career like we saw with Jordan Henderson and Jordan Pickford, the chances of you going back to re-sign are slim I think. I don’t know of many players who went back to sign for their hometown club. Once you get sold that is it. You leave your parent club behind to make something of yourself.
We don’t really have much to shout about so being proud of two local lads who are born n bred here is important. I’m proud of anyone from Sunderland who does well in their chosen field...Fulwell 73, Kate Adie, Dave Stewart etc etc.

So I say be proud of where you’re from and celebrate the area.

any sunderland born lad pulling on the three lines jersey is a great source of pride to the whole town imo mate. I still remember the warm glow I felt when mick harford earned his caps there iirc
