Funny you should mention transfers, as since 1992 (the year we formed), NUFC's nett spend is £155M, which works out at £6.2M per season. In the same period, SAFC's nett spend is £185M, or £7.4M per season.

We haven't any reason to moan yet we've been relegated twice in the last 10 years, been to NO cup finals and spent less money.

You're not very good at this are you.

Net spend

You spent more than us as a championship side this season man. Just because your better than us at recouping fees doesnt disprove the point you always show ambition and we dont.

Nufc have never had a season like we did under McCarthy where we relied on unknown quantitys such a Lawrence Elliot and Whitehead. The day that season happens you wont be getting 50k gates

They / he did.

Just our luck that he uses NUFC as a vehicle to advertise his sports shops as opposed to actively trying for success.
Yes, I see your point.
I meant the likes of who own Chelsea / Man City.
Not sure how 'rich' Ashley is , but yes , I did think of him when I was typing my previous post.

Nett spend, income minus outgoings, the basics of accountancy for a couple of thousand years I would guess.

There's no doubting we were a very ambitious club under Hall, and for a while under Shepherd until he lost the plot.....but under Ashley, no way I'm having that.
A nett spend of £22m in 10 years (a whopping £2m per season), the appointments of people like Joe f***ing Kinnear (twice), Pardew, McClaren & Carver, openly admitting they weren't interested in winning cups, 2 relegations, his casino mates running the club etc. etc. You could argue that appointing Benitez was an ambitious move, but it's only be done so he can get back on the Premier League gravy train and get his charver sports shop advertised for nowt all over the World again.

ps I'd take the likes of Lawrence, Whitehead & Elliot over some of the foreign toss we've bought over the last few years any day of the week.

The reason net spend is so flawed is because you are using a period of time where sunderland constantly bounced between the divisions compared to nufc who hadnt been relegated since the prem began.

You bemoan the managers but you were always active in recruiting players. We have a net spend of 1m more per season and have made a loss in 47 of our last 49 signings so that just shows how much drivel your spouting.

Ashley has been there since 2007. Sunderland never relegated in that time. Newcastle relegated twice in the same period.

Ashley bought an established premier league side. We had just been promoted you muppet

How much did Keane spend in the championship? Was it about 40 million or something? I think i read after he'd left he'd spent about 80 million, but i don't know, and I'm sure somebody on here does

So we massively outspent you for one season.

You outspent us for 20 year man

Think this line of discussion started when somebody said we'd get sub-40k crowds if we were to have it as bad as Sunderland.
Over the last 10 years you could argue we've been worse than Sunderland, considering we've been relegated twice in that time, spent less and shown zero ambition to do anything at all other than make up the numbers in the premier league. Fluked a 5th place finish, and the board made sure that wouldn't happen again by allowing 6 of the first team pool to leave and bringing in only Vurnon Anita. Decimate the squad before a season with a Europa league campaign. Resulted in a relegation battle, only confirming PL status at game 37.

You are talking complete bollocks though, your net spend has been dwarfed by the outrageous fees you have recieved for Wijinaldum, Sissoko, Carroll and Cabaye

Your Ins look like this:

Barton 6m
Smith 6m
Enrqiue 6m
Colocinni 10m
Gutierez 13m
Xisco 5m
Nolan 4m
Best 3m
Ben Arfa 6m
Tiote 3.5m
Cabaye 5m
Cisse 13m
Santon 5m
Obertan 3m
Sissoko 2.5m
Mbiwa 7m
Dubucy 6m
Anita 6m
Lascelles 3.5m
Darlow 3.5m
Janmat 5m
Rivierre 6m
Cabella 12m
De Jong 6m
Townsend 12m
Shelvey 12m
Saviet 4m
Mbemba 7m
Mitrovic 13m
Wijinaldum15m
Murphy 3m
Lazar 3m
Yedlin 5m
Diame 4m
Clark 5m
Hanley 6m
Hayden 2.5m
Ritchie 12m
Gayle 10m
Sels 5m

268.5m spend, that working out as spending 26.85m a season on the team and you spent 2 seasons in the Championship. Ashley has done brilliantly getting the fees he has done for your players. So its a myth that NUFC dont get backed back Ashley.

I'm not sure you understand what net spend is.

You're talking about gross here.

What a load of horsepower...When the owners are that rich they can't give two shiney ones about selling tickets, it's not even pocket change for them. They bought man city because Manchester is the capital of the north, not Newcastle. And the city is home to two massive clubs and a economic powerhouse

Correct.

Remember the night Man City signed Robinho and the City fans were there on deadline day with tea towels on their heads doing a walk like an egyptian style dance.

We haven't.

He doesn't.

Thick as a whale omelette.

No you lot are dense trying to argue about net spend stating Colback as a "free transfer" when he probably got a 4m signing on fee and 50k a week

You cant argue about net spend when you are clueless about how much you spent

Facts show you spend quite a bit on fees but its all Ashleys fault.

What was Jack Colback's transfer fee?

All players get a signing on fee. Free transfers obviously get a bigger one. He was, like any other out of contract player, a free transfer.

The facts are there.

Since the Ashley takeover, NUFC have spent £279.8m.
Since the Drumaville take over, Sunderland under Drumaville and Short ownership have spent £285.73m.

Nufc have recouped £257.1m. A net spend of £22.5m, or £2.25m per season on average.

Sunderland have recouped £125.275m, a net spend of £160.455m, or £14.5m per season.

In that time Newcastle have had 2 seasons in the championship.
Sunderland have had 1.
