The Hundred 2023

All other countries have only,a handful of teams so can be arranged as stand alone events. So with 18 teams you televise 3 games per night on the red button.( They televise 12 games a night for the championship football) You're then giving viewers a choice of game but no other events to distract. Would a choice of games not be more appealing than a stand alone event?
Or should we restrict the tournament as the Hundred is at present thus depriving large areas from watching at an actual game

Yeah, apols for the ambiguity. I wasn’t comparing with the County Championship. It exceeds the domestic viewership average for EFL Championship matches and the “regular season” average for all other sports on Sky. I would have thought this intended meaning was obvious from the comment that only the Premier League and the F1 have a higher number.

Except that he specifically asked in response to a post about the original one day competition. Which was the Gillette Cup. He asked who that excluded. So I think whatever he meant in his head, it’s fair to point out that it excluded fewer counties than either the Blast or the 100 because it didn’t exclude any of them.

Which is relevant because my strong suspicion is that the real problem here (understandably given where we come from) is not really that it excludes some counties, it’s that it exclude ours.

So they've gone from excluding no one, to excluding the minor counties, to excluding over half of the first class counties and all of the minor counties, if we're bringing them into the argument. Not sure how that is a sound argument in favour of the 100

Excluding the part time teams in the minor counties is in no way the same as excluding the 18 professional teams in this country.
 
I don't think anyone on here is remotely bothered about Durham not having a team in this Mickey Mouse competition, it's the blatant attempt to create a two tier system which will most like end with the 8 franchises monopolising the other forms of the game as well, with the other 12 joining the amateur ranks of the minor counties competitions, that rankles
It isn't just the excluded clubs either. Members of the counties that do have to give up their grounds for this have the same concern. That this is just the beginning and professional cricket will soon be played exclusively by the 8 franchises

This is the point which many on here can’t (or obstinately refuse to) see in there defence of this competition.

I can only speak for myself of course but I don’t want any county being excluded. Obviously I’m more sympathetic to Durham, but I still balk at the idea of a 10 team 16.4 which includes Durham which some people think will heal the suffering. That still doesn’t cut it for me. The bigger picture has been my main concern all along as others have also stated above.

In recent years a number of counties have been deemed unfashionable, some have even had their ‘worthiness’ questioned by naysayers, but every single one in my opinion play an important part in the development of English talent, which before anyone forgets, is the sole purpose of county cricket as viewed upon by England and the ECB.

but were all so reliant on TV money were at the mercy of what they want, and its never going to be an 18 team tournament even if it the format is t20, at some point some counties are going to miss out. my thought has always been that Durham either need to take a share in hosting the Superchargers games or whats been rumoured is that we take on a new team at our ground,

we can see where its going that the franchises will eventually be bought most likely by the indians, we just have to hope that ECB make sure they make enough money for the other teams to survive, but i doubt youll see any of them on TV even in a competition like the blast

how does it work in india? they have 38 First class Teams yet only 10 IPL teams

it's a non sequitor. Not strange at all and in keeping with most ECB defenders.
Fortunately these new proposals are from the Professional Games Board who have had meaningful consultation with all relevant bodies.

5 options on the table including keeping the Hindered as it is.

Smacks of desperation. Invent a tournament that a small minority might enjoy but the majority of cricket fans will hate. Take a gamble by throwing huge sums of money at it and bribing the counties with an annual £1.3 m sweetener. Keep the £1.3 million per county separate from the Hundred accounts so that it doesn't look like it is haemmoraging money (which it is).

It is scary how big the ECB have funked up on this. And they know it but obviously they can't admit it cos they'd be slaughtered.

However they need to come up with something that will build up the financial reserves again. But here's a hint for the ECB...NONE OF THOSE IDEAS SHOULD INVOLVE THE HUNDRED.

FFS I know people at the top in any profession can make some howlers but this is scary. They are in danger of wiping out professional cricket in Britain.
