The Hundred 2023

Explain?

22 players of which there's only a handful of current international white ball players involved. Best performance coming from a 38 year old that last played an international when I was still at school.

f***ing joke of a competition.

It’s a very strange and petty thing to try and spin into a negative. He had a brilliant game.

It’s like you’ve been sitting waiting, ignoring players like Tongue, Johnson, Turner and Atkinson stealing the show and have finally picked a game that a veteran has got MOTM and jumped on it.

Very weird.

This whole thread is full of pettiness mate

@PeteFTM @Voice of fair play

Your turkeys voting for christmas these franchises want to destroy cricket. Football will do the same eventually.

I've not watched a single mens game in 3 years. Watched a bit of Tammy's knock the other day. Good for the women's game granted.

That’s fine mate if you don’t agree with it from that principle respect that view and you entitled to it.

Personally I think they want the exact opposite get new blood involved in the game we love to increase participation at ground level and I applaud that as think it’s needed.

I respect you don’t like it, but totally disagree with this looking at every possible angle to have a go at it.

Tonight been another example of having a go at a player who assessed the wicket excellently, used his experience and exploited the conditions to get some quality players out including possibly the best young English batsman out there and instead of giving him credit for it, it is used to have another go at the competition.

I like that you're absolutely committed to the PR line, and you don't care that you're taking cricket away from more than half the fanbase. You couldn't give a shit that despite tens of millions spent, the numbers through the gate or watching on TV are really really disappointing.

Kudos.

*The only 16.4 I've seen was the closing 10 minutes of the Wales game on the BBC a few days ago, and that was absolute garbage. Comically rubbish cricket-ish nonsense. Maybe the rest has been better, at this point I couldn't give a shit.

Probably best to stop posting on the thread tbf then. Let those who want to enjoy it just enjoy it. The poster in question has tried to draw a line under the whole debate a number of times and just wants to focus on the action. He's even admitted himself it hasn't turned out as hoped and wishes they just rejigged the blast. What more can possibly be said?

Just focus on the action Rob, yeah? That's your principle, ignore anything external and just watch that product? Basic bitch thinking?

So let's stop going on and on and on about Newcastle's sportswashing of genocide, yeah? I mean, could we please stop going on and on about Saudi's PIF fund trying to bleach their murderous theocracy? What more can possibly be said?

No, cheers.

The argument has been done to death man. It's hardly like it's just started. What more could possibly be said at this time? To compare it to the mags and Saudi situation is laughable ffs. People are just trying to enjoy a cricket tournament and certain posters are only hitting the threads to say how shit it is (dispute claiming never to watch it)

It's exactly the same principle (albeit football is a much more serious level, obvs).

Ignore everything, just watch the product.

Killing professional cricket in the North East? Shut up and watch this six from Liam Livingstone. Wooo! Racking up those twitter likes!

It's basic bitch cricket-ish garbage. Unsustainable bullshit.

I don't think anyone doubts that somewhere in the near future it will disappear but every argument has been done to absolute death over these last few years man. Some posters are just enjoying the cricket at the moment. What's the actual point now of people with zero interest in it popping in this thread just to basically bait people of and thus it go round it circles again for what seems the millionth time

If the Football League decided to stick us in a reserve league, steal our best players and advise us to just support Leeds instead would Pure Football be all sunshine and rainbows?

There is certainly some things about ‘The Hundred’ that I don’t like as a cricket player and fan for 50 years.

1. Should be 20 overs
2. Score graphics are shit (although see why they have done it)
3.Not spread geographically enough.

The rest of it spot on.

1.Spot in the calendar superb (school holidays)
2.Seeing loads of families and kids in the crowd clearly having a great time
3.Having every match live on the telly and each match been an event itself and doubler header with women’s game.
4.Quality cricket on show especially this season.

For you to say it’s absolutely garbage is complete nonsense when you admitting watching just 10 minutes when it’s clear as day without a shadow of a doubt you don’t have the slightest open mind on the actual cricket on show and have made up you mind to dislike the cricket without a ball been bowled.

The very same players play good cricket in The blast but when they perform in the blast it’s bad cricket, absolutely nonsense.

No doubt which I have to be fair to admit, lots of county fans very much dislike it and if they get their way and there is no short format tournament in the school holidays.

We can go back to watching Dom Sibley score a 100 of a 250 balls in the middle of the summer, that imo will not attract new kids to the game and threaten the longevity of the sport going forward.

100 balls is shit but a 20 over short from tournament should be on in this country in a designated window in peak summer in this country as it is in other cricket countries nearly all them.

Moving on from those who had a few too many fruit shoots last night..

The Classico at 2:30 promises to be a good one, both teams need a win, but I fancy the Rockets for this one.

Another big game at 6:30, Invincibles can afford to drop points, but a win would secure their spot at the top of the table. Brave probably overachieving this season given their squad imo, but they’re right up there and challenging.

What's the point in criticising anything? Probably none.

What's the point in popping on a thread to 'basically bait people' who are critical of the 16.4? Also none.

Dom Sibley is not the only alternative, there's cricket for everyone.

You can't say that 100 balls is shit and then criticise me for saying its nonsense. :D

I think we're agreed that the format is cricket-ish bullshit, and I also think we're agreed that robbing half the country of cricket in the holidays is a disgraceful idea. The difference is that you're prepared to support it, I'm not.

Tens of millions taken out of the sport for this crap, heartbreaking.

I'm 30 years old. Cricket was the countries second sport in 2005.

An entire generation of kids fell in love with cricket cos it was on terrestrial TV.

The ECB have decimated participation by sticking it behind a paywall. They decided to finally getting rid of the paywall for a competition that isn't even applicable to other forms of cricket.

I can't see how these new fans they are set to pull in will watch the cricket world cup in just over a month's time. Going to have to learn a whole new set of rules. So what purpose does it serve.

The ECB have wasted all their cash reserves on a competition that didn't need to be created however you dress it up. Whether you like it or not

Also @PeteFTM yep Mott has picked Atkinson solely from the 12 overs he's bowled in this competition.

Which seeing the bowling SRs in the competition will absolutely zero bearing on how people will fare in an actual 20/50 over games. Were gonna win the world cup easily if all our bowlers can have 9 SRs and take 5/6 wicket hauls a game. Almost like it's not anywhere resembling actual cricket.
