At the (new) league meeting last night it was decided we will play timed cricket of 95 overs with a 1:30 start. Should be interesting to see who plays and who doesn't.

Any news on 3rd team cricket league mate

Is there any truth in the rumor that one meeting had to be adjured because 26 ballot papers were sent out to the 26 clubs for the election of league officials,

and 36 ballot papers were sent back?

Bit mental that this was the main reason that a lot of folk cited as their reason for not wanting to play at a 'higher' level and now it's being forced upon them in effect.

Might I add that I think in the long run its quite possibly a shame, nobody likes having to do something they voted against - just look at the Condem government!!

this is what was proposed and the 95 option was passed
Durham Cricket League

Time Cricket – 3 options to be voted on - 105/100/95 Overs game
Start 1pm
Side batting first can bat for 55/52/50 overs
Delays or interruptions reduce overs – table for calculation of reduced overs in handbook
Points
Win 15 points
Tie 7 points
Draw:
Side with higher scoring rate 7 points
Side with lower scoring rate 3 points
Equal scoring rate 5 points
Abandoned 5 points
Loss 0 points

Bonus Points – added as follows:
Batting: 1 point for scoring 120, 140, 160, 180, 200 Maximum 5 (within the first 50/48/45 overs)
Bowling: 1 point for 2 wickets taken – then for 4, 6, 8 and 10 Maximum 5
Winning Side: Batting first and declared within permitted overs awarded 1 point for each complete over not used (Max 5), so in un-interrupted game 50/48/45 overs or less.
Winning Side: Batting second provided it has not won the toss will get 1 bonus point for each of its permitted overs not used (Max 5)

Bonus Points Cont’d

Winning Side: Batting second: If the side batting first having won the toss is dismissed the team batting second can still get full 5 ‘batting points’ by not losing wickets – table for points awarded for this is in handbook -- but for example:
If batting side is dismissed for 119 runs – team batting second can get the 5 points if they lose only 2 wickets. In this way the winning side is not punished for dismissing the opposition cheaply. This works very well!
Ways to achieve full points: By winning obviously!
Win the toss and bat
Get over 200 runs in 50/48/45 or less overs 5 points
Declare in 50/48/45 or less overs 5 points
Bowl out opposition 5 points
Win the game 15 points
MAXIMUM POINTS 30
Lose the toss and have to field
Dismiss the opposition 5 points
Reach target score in 5 overs less than permitted 5 points
Dependent on loss of wicket but 5 possible 5 points
Win the game 15 points
MAXIMUM POINTS 30

Other Factors
No player will be allowed to bowl more than 15/13/12 overs – reduced in interrupted games.
17 overs per hour required – points deducted for less – after allowances.

Seems to have been voted in fairly so no huge grounds for complaint from anyone.

Bet quite a few are wishing they applied for NEPL2 though.

Also, I wonder if we see quite a few players who want to play limited overs cricket moving across to NTSL teams.

Meeting this month to decide what happens to junior cricket moving forward. Best guess is that they will regionalise it and it wont kick in until the year after next. Abolishing pairs cricket after U11's allegedly which is a step in the right direction although some U11 leagues dont play pairs cricket anyway.

Personally i think that they should introduce a pyramid system for junior cricket. Really cant see what the benefit is for teams to be hammered off the likes of Durham City week in and week out. It also does nothing for Durham City and co or the county.

Best junior sides in the area ie none Northumberland ones:

Durham City, CLS, Hetton Lyons, Blaydon, Ryton, Sacriston, Peterlee, Tudhoe, Washington, Esh Winning

I understand that Burnopfield are going to start an U11 and U13 side having not had ones since 2008. Also got planning permission in too sell their current ground for housing development and move to a new ground on the outskirts of the village.

Out of interest Colonel will the clubs have a say in what happens with junior cricket or will the board just decide what is going to happen ?

From what i can tell it is the top eschelon of the respective clubs that make the decision in conjuntion with the DCB.

I'm told that they tried to introduce a pyramid system for the junior leagues some time ago but it was voted down on the basis of travel.

I think that the NEPL would like to have their own junior set up but im not sure that south north and one or two others are keen on that. Also the fact that the Durham clubs have managed to sort out the recent DSL problem by themselves has negated the need for NEPL involvement.

most people seem keen to have any changes in place for next season but the general feeling seems to be that reorganisaing both the junior and senior setups in the same season is a bridge too far.

What was the science to putting that list together?

I basically keep tabs on all the junior teams that make the DCB end of season championships and theyre the clubs at U11, U13 and U15 level who provide the quarter finalists regularly.

Other clubs such as Wearmouth, Swalwell and others flit in and out of the last 8.

the competition BTW is for the top 2 teams in the coast, county, DSL and NT league.
