The best thing that Sunderland has ever produced musically

I have some grand tales from back then, smoking the finest and listening to people like Mick Grabham, Nigel Olsson, Ferry and later on Dave Stewart, Peet Coombes, Roy Harper and The String Band wouldn't dream of posting much about them on here though. I'm not like you in that respect. ;)

There's another lad on here used to hang around with John Martyn and he keeps his gob shut anarl.

I think I know who this lad is?;)

do you know bob marshall?

Successful and best are two different things. I cannot say who from Sunderland has been the most successfull, and with regards to the best this is subjective to musical taste.

So for me I would say that Monty Casino, The Spheres and the band I was in, 'Seventythree' were the best due to our soul funk musoc which are genres I love. We were a breath of fresh air and something different in a scene saturated by Indie bands a few years back in Sunderland and beyond.

Mind I did experience a little of the later stages of the Punk AND skin scene in Sunderland and the passion and energy of this scene was fantastic.

I agree but to suggest the lads posted on here are up there with the likes we've mentioned isn't really on is it.

Aye thats the same lad, I have known him for yeats;)

He has to be a lot older than you mind.

Not the lad I am on about but I think I may know what is going on here but that is another story if my thoughts are correct?;)

I'll tell you what's going on, I'm having a pop at the shitehawk on here who told me I was talking bollocks about Ferry and his roots. He knows who he is.

Aye, he's from Washy. part of Sunderland though, no?

Yep it shows the danger or learning your knowledge of people from before the internet  I always had it my mind he went to school in Jarrow mind.

Not an inspiring list .

The Futureheads and Kenickie are the only ones that anyone out of the area would have heard of in the last 20 years.

Dave Stewart is the one that stands out a mile.

It is weird why there hasn't been more.

mate of mine went to school with Ferry reckons he was a prick and a f***ing mag.
I Thought he was canny with the Gas Board but i couldn't stand that Roxy Music shit.

I don't think he was much into football mate. I know he was a member of Houghton Cycle Club. Bruce told me he'd sent them a gold disc to stick up on the wall, not sure if that's true mind. He loves telling the tale of Ferry's audition. Apparently the lads decided to play Hound Dog to kick off, obviously a song everyone would know. The moment Ferry took up the mike and kicked off in his own inimitable style the entire band fell about laughing. :-D

He wasn't into football Friedrich but I know a canny few older Brady Square lads who say if it was mentioned he was always a mag.

a bit mainstream on your point there..the toy dolls and leatherface are still touring as far a field as japan and the states...not a big list for sure but new stuff showing promise like field music, beak, hyde and beast, ashes of iron...my choice at the moment
