[the ashes] test 3. Manchester

Am i being a moron here, but if it is a draw England retain the ashes, so to say nothing has changed is wrong.

Oh aye that's true, but I'd rather win them. Against this team especially a draw would be a very poor return. I'd think of it in terms of Australia can't win if it's a draw here rather than England retianing the Ashes for that reason.

That was off the top of my head: Big scores in the last three big series' and the biggest innings in the biggest match in the biggest modern day series.

India a couple of years ago he got a double hundred, at least one more hundred and a couple of 50's in a four Test series. He's going to finish his career with about 10,000 runs at about 50.00, the best bat we've had for at least 30 years, simple as that.

He's played about a hundred Tests I bet you could find dozens of failures, just as you could for Sachin or Lara. :-?

Exactly this. The thing with KP is the amount of match winning knocks he plays compared to everyone else.
Usually around 1 per series, sometimes as in 2005 they are series defining knocks.

To criticize a bloke that averages 48, has the most runs in all formats for England, player of the tournament at the World T20, 23 100's and the one genuine player who can destroy any bowling attack on his day, just seems silly to have a go.

Especially when compared against Bell who for the first 4 years of his career averaged around 45 and yet you could count on 1 hand the amount of match winning knocks he had played in all formats of the game for England

In the context of England that's all well and true, but it's hardly unqiue to have a batsman who can do that in cricket if you're from SA, Australia or India. Given that he had the capacity to be one of the best ever people should have been able to say more than that he can score big totals quickly and produce match winning knocks. That's the mark of a very fine batsman, but it's not the mark of a truly exceptional player.

yeah, that was good craic... he's (neville) been on TMS too. i wish i could listen to both, the problem with TMS is it's never in sync with either the tele or the internet stream i use...

#firstworldissues

Totally agree about TMS and TV time delay. When Channel 4 had the cricket, I could watch pictures on TV and have TMS on together and I used to love it. Now it's on Sky, I'd know what was going to happen via TMS before the ball is bowled on Sky.

A minor irritation but an irritation none the less.

to be honest i'm in awe of how far technology has come. i can sit here in sydney and watch a decent quality stream of a test match in the uk in virtual real time...

at the same time the wife thinks i'm f***ing great because i let her watch her shit tele when she knows the cricket's on...

it's a win win..!

Just out of interest, is the Ashes only on a pay per view channel in Australia or is terrestrially broadcast?
