You keep saying it, and I'll keep answering it.

Two Tests against New Zealand were effectively a battle for two spots between Bairstow, Root and Compton.

Compton lost because:
a) He scored less runs
b) Never looked like it
c) Is the wrong side of 30 and has had a rank average career.


Joe Root is an opener, who has opener his entire career, it is anything but crazy. So I'll ask again. How long would you wait before you let your new star opener, err, open?
 
Re: Bairstow. The ECB have barely released him for a single match over the past month or so, meaning he has little recent form. They've just kept dumping him as twelfth man. Now he'll get unjustified criticism from various quarters.

Cannot think what gives you that idea, nonetheless I know who I'll be rooting for tonight at the T20 game, hope to get my desk clear in time to make the start but this bloody test match keeps holding the job up.

Betting in play,currently ENG 4/6 AUS 11/8.
Im guessing AUS chasing anything over 225 will be very difficult.
If we manage to post this as a lead,it will be a good effort.
Whats everyone else think?

When you consider the highest score in this match has been 280, if (IF, IF, IF) we get to 200 (lead) still 5 wickets down we'll win the match.
 
dreadful... looked very comfortable there. don't think we needed to take the game from them so much as build a lead, especially with little batting left.

big wicket.
