Test squad v India- Rashid included

Not always. There are plenty of games where the ECB don't make them available. The point I'm making is that the best England players aren't playing CC so why should it matter if they pick a proven player based on his white ball performances? I'm actually glad they've done it because in the past, it would have been the typically stubborn and bureaucratic decision not to pick hin despite is excellent form
Because they’re being rested sometimes too

It’s totally different

Absolutely indefensible

He’s not good enough

He’s averaged over 40 on spinning pitches

Too many bad balls. Too easy to play

Pretty shameful by Smith and Taylor

Also where has Ali come from ?
Options are thin in the ground and he’s bowling well. His control has been excellent in ODIs.
I don’t have an issue with it to be honest.

Not really surprised.

Cook has played 6 out of their 8 games so far this season. The batsmen are pretty much always available when they aren't on England duty while the bowlers have their workloads managed more closely. But even then, Stuart Broad has played 5 games for Notts, and Joe Root has played 3 CC games despite being involved in all 3 forms for England.

So you couldn't really be more wrong, and it's plain stupid to compare that to someone who has effectively retired from the sport.
The point is wider than that has happened n this season. With so few tests in May-Aug it makes sense for the non-White ball players to play Cc not to mention Broad, and Anderson having to play Cc to prove their fitness for the Test series

This. Selecting him or not selecting will not make one scrap of difference to County Cricket

Who would people call up instead? Bess has a lot to learn on the bowling side, in such a dry summer he's taken 8 wickets in his last 5 CC innings and 10 wickets in his last 7 innings, 2 of which were for the Lions and 5 were second XI cricket. Leach has bowled less than 40 overs since coming back from a pretty serious injury. I get that if you look at it with no context it looks like they are saying it doesn't matter what you do in county cricket but there aren't any English spinners asking to be included (Virdi maybe earlier in the summer but his wickets have dried up too). Smith has said it's an exceptional decision and I think the reasons above are why they've chosen to go with an experienced international cricketer (I know it's a different format) in this instance and I think that's understandable.

It happens every season, the England players are generally available for their Counties when not on duty. Not every single time as workloads are managed, but more often than not.

Your claim that they aren't is plain wrong.

And even if they weren't, and even if they were rarely released, your comparison with someone who had retired from the format would still be silly.

He hasn't retired from the format at all. Clearly he hasn't because he's accepted a call up to the Test Team for RED BALL CRICKET

You have an agenda against Rashid for whatever reason. Simply put, he is the best spinner around in the English game at present. I couldn't give 2 hoots if he hasn't played for Yorkshire since September, it's irrelevant

There is clearly something gone on between Rashid and Gayle over a number of years and for me is one of the reasons why he stopped playing red ball cricket. It will be interesting to see if he does make a go of Test cricket whether he will sign a red ball contract with Yorkshire

Can you think of another word for someone who stops playing red ball cricket then? Hiatus perhaps? Is that better? And retirements can be reversed, but CAPITAL LETTERS!

Agenda? Fucks' sake man, grow up.

He hasn't signed a red ball contract for the 2018 season. That's the long and short of it. Why you getting so het up about it? It's a subject where everyone has a differing opinion. Doesn't make my right, doesn't make you right

I'm really not, the only comment I've made on his call up is that I'm "not really surprised". I pulled you up on your claim that it's just the same as England players missing CC matches, and I pulled you up on that because it's complete bollocks.

You brought CAPITAL LETTERS into this and started on about agendas.

I'm largely in favour of the recall of Rashid as he was harshly done to in the past but feel for Leach. Delighted for Porter, reward for his excellent CC form over the last 2 years.

Rashid hits back at Vaughan.

Now I’m not Vaughan’s biggest fan, as regular readers will be well aware, but the comments from Rashid in that article are f***ing pathetic. He’s shown himself up as being incredibly childish IMO.

Had the chance to play in the Roses match this past week, chose not to, for me that should’ve made him ineligible for selection.

Think he's right but agree doesn't come across well.

Particularly agree with the bits about Yorkshire. Pissed off a lot of the double CCwinning side, Lees, Rash, Plunkett probably Bresnan. Something stinks within this club at the moment. Coaches and board are a disgrace

What you need is a demotion and points deduction SP, sort the shite right out ;)

I actually agree with a lot of what he's said, albeit he has worded it slightly like a petulant child.

Vaughan is a gobshite who just wants to spout shite to keep himself in the limelight.

I endorse the selection.

Bess looked a decent bat but an average bowler. Leach has a lot to learn.

I've been banging on for ages about shoe horning some of our better ODI players into our poor test team. Rashid certainly comes into that category as does Buttler who hardly played hardly any red ball cricket but has hit the ground running.

Long term both of the above and Hales should play red ball cricket but because of poor previous selections they seem to have become disillusioned with the longer form of the game.
