Ridiculous after he gave up red ball cricket
Hideous. An insult to county cricket, but hardly a shock is it?
If they’re eligible yes.Pick your best players. Every other team does that,........
How do we know if he's the best red ball spin bowler available?Pick your best players. Every other team does that,........
He’s obviously eligible as he’s been picked. If they’re eligible yes.
The ecb also have to promote county cricket for the long term good of the england team
If you can bowl leg spin with good control in ODIs when the batsman are coming at you for full 10 overs then I’m sure he can do the same in test arena. How do we know if he's the best red ball spin bowler available?
Eligible was probably the wrong wordHe’s obviously eligible as he’s been picked.

Because it's quite clear that he is the best spin bowler. White ball or red ball, it's still 22 yards away, it's still a bowler v a batsman. Too much is being made of him not playing "red ball cricket"How do we know if he's the best red ball spin bowler available?
In tests he can settle in more though as batsman won’t be coming at him from ball one.Eligible was probably the wrong word
The difference between the two formats is that in tests they can wait for bad balls, in one dayers they have to attack him
I rate him as a spinner, and think he hasn’t had great opportunitiesIn tests he can settle in more though as batsman won’t be coming at him from ball one.
His control has been excellent and that is the key for any leg spin bowler.
Put it this way bowling really well in ODIs against world class batsman impresses me far more than if he was purely playing red ball cricket and mopping up in the county game.
Sends out the wrong message in my opinion but hey hoBecause it's quite clear that he is the best spin bowler. White ball or red ball, it's still 22 yards away, it's still a bowler v a batsman. Too much is being made of him not playing "red ball cricket"

There aren’t any better options man. I’m pleased he’s been picked.
I don't go for this "wrong message " nonsense - if County Cricket is so important then why do the centrally contracted players rarely play for their counties? How many times has Cook opened for Essex in the CC in the last 10 years? If it's more than a couple of games a Season I'd be amazed. Same for Anderson, Root, Broad etcSends out the wrong message in my opinion but hey ho
That’s totally different. It’s obvious why it’s different, they’re playing for England instead!I don't go for this "wrong message " nonsense - if County Cricket is so important then why do the centrally contracted players rarely play for their counties? Not always. There are plenty of games where the ECB don't make them available. The point I'm making is that the best England players aren't playing CC so why should it matter if they pick a proven player based on his white ball performances? I'm actually glad they've done it because in the past, it would have been the typically stubborn and bureaucratic decision not to pick hin despite is excellent formThat’s totally different.
