But all the action is on the hundred thread so many say they don't care about. How about don't watch the hundred.
Mental Bairstow has lucked his way back in. Not that Pope has been great anyway and I don't think anyone in the middle order has done anything in county cricket.
However it's like they've forgotten Buttler at 5 and him at 7 didn't work 2 years ago.
Don't really see what swapping them around will do. Unless they go Lawrence Bairstow Buttler.
But even then, if it's not worked recently why try it again
Can see India winning the series as it sounds like were curating pitches to help give us more practice for Australia.
So goes to 5 days and their spinners are more of a threat! We nullify our seamers in the process.

They need a senior player in like at the minute with Stokes out. He deserves a proper run Bairstow
I have never seen an England player messed more around than that lad.
I just cant see Dan Lawrence having a test career with the way he plays, test bowlers are just too good.
Pope will be back in long term but short term its the right call IMO anyway.
No chance Crawley should be batting 6
he shouldnt be playing really for his own good but he is a top order player and not a number 6.

thats the whole point, nobody is knocking the door down. and those that we have tried have failed in the middle order, Lawrence and Pope. They need a rest.

Dont agree on Bairstow, I think they need a senior player in and as I say he has been messed around so much, deserves a run in the middle order
Lawrence isn;t the answer at this level and Pope, even in fit, needs a rest for me
Him n Crawley will have long futures but we are doing them more harm than good by keep picking them
If people dont want Bairstow in, yep thats fine
But I really really hate this narrative that he keeps getting lucky getting picked, its the complete oppotiste, he has been messed around so much, almost every year.

Broad, Anderson, Buttler, Wood, Root and Burns are all over 30 with 20+ tests. JB is a walking wicket in test cricket these days.

we had 2 gems there and we totally mismanaged them and lost some of their best years

Burns has had a below average test career, I will give you the others
I was at both the NZ tests mate, and we badly lacked senior figures and voices, we just looked meak and inexperienced. not like i had seen before.
especially with Stokes missing we need someone in there. even if just for this series until he is back.
and as I say, Lawrence isnt a test number 5 for me long term, even if he scores run this series, I am just really doubtul you can play for test cricket for years with that technique. white ball, absolitely

Joe Clarke, Hassan Azad, Will Rhodes, Sam Hain, Harvey Hosein, James Bracey (batting not keeping!), Jack Haynes etc.
JB is a dead end selection. His red ball game has suffered as he improved in white ball and you are just filling up a space that could be used to blood new talent with someone who averages 15-20. It makes sense if he's in there as wicket keeping cover for Buttler but not as a batsman.
