Test Series :: Australia v India

Bumrah aside, I really dislike this Indian team. Make the Aussies look like saints. Kohli is the biggest to**er of the lot.
I hate them.

I’m not a fan of the country either. Especially with that arsehole as President. The caste system is an absolute disgrace.

Usually see them sharing links on YouTube about stuff like how Indians own more property in London than British people, they’re convinced they’ve now “colonised” Britain. As if buying property and paying taxes to a country is colonising it.

Hope the Aussies smash the fuckers.

When Sunak was PM they were even worse. Convinced that having a bloke of Indian descent that no one voted in and 90% hated and could vote out in July meant they'd "colonised" us. One I got into a tiff with had got it into his head that he'd somehow manage to stay in power whatever. Mad bastards.

Kept trying to tell them that wasn't how our politics worked and a tory is a tory regardless of skin colour or background, but they never got it.

Agreed. Swings in roundabouts and circles imo. I used to love the likes of Dravid and Tendulkar on and off the field.

The advent of the IPL hasn't helped the likeability of some of their stars of late.

Kohli is a funny one, by all accounts he's a canny bloke off the field, but definitely an odious scoate on it. This selfish and entitled behaviour has definitely rubbed off on his teammates over the years.
I reckon the "canny bloke" act I'm front of the cameras is just that. An act. You don't do the things he does on a cricket field if you're a nice bloke imo

Kohli only fined 20% of his match fee and given 1 demerit point. That’ll really teach him

I can just imagine the carnage if he tried it in the local leagues of old

Although it seemed to have worked I’d be fuming if I was an Aussie fan watching Konstas play the way he did. It made Bazball look calm and controlled. It was way way way too aggressive. I’m obviously not an Aussie but it was sending me loopy watching him play the way he was.
Why?

He scored more runs than other openers they have had recently (which game is about) and a half century on debut

It was reckless. It was really tough to watch. I’ve got no issues with players playing attacking cricket but he was playing brainless cricket. When it works it’s genius but he’s asking for trouble if it doesn’t. He missed his first 2 scoops that he had played within the first 5 overs, he missed his first couple of ugly swipes after charging down the wicket to seamers within the first 5 overs. It’s worked for him today, good for him. But it’s a huge risky game to play and not pretty to watch if it’s not perfect.

It get that, but the other method of leaving plenty and scoring traditional runs as a opener hasn’t worked for several years now.

Look around the world over these past 5 years or so how many World class openers scoring consistent runs traditionally is there???

Very very few if any???

Obviously I am not saying every opener should play like him last night, but it has to be asked playing much more attacking than test openers ever have might now be the way to look at things and getting the best out of your openers.

Look at Duckett for example he leaves very few plays very attacking and whether traditional cricket fans like it or not currently he is the best 2/3 openers in the world.

Each to there own but I don’t find the likes Sibley and the like a good watch, as you know he will not score enough consistent runs as his name will be on a ball sooner or later for very few runs

I’ve only seen the highlights with the Aussie commentators laughing at the audacity etc… it didn’t show that he’d played and missed about 30 times.

His luck was in today no doubt about it but 9 times out of 10 he’s out for a low score if he plays like that in my opinion.

Maybe he had a game plan to take on the best bowler in the world and it worked. Is it better to watch when they play and miss playing defensive shots?

I just think there needs to be a balance. I actually think Duckett is a good example of playing that way well. He is attacking without generally being careless. He doesn’t leave many balls at all, but he plays sensible and still attacking cricket shots. The Aussie lad didn’t. He was 0 off 13 balls so maybe he just felt he needed to do something to get off the mark and then kept going.

But we are talking one innings here. I find it highly unlikely if he plays like that every innings this time next year he will have been more unsuccessful than successful. If he is then fair enough I’ll hold my hands up. But then still I don’t think I’m out of order saying it was a tough watch. It has done a job but it was horrible to see ugly swipes and ungamely scoops.

Please don’t think I’m a boring old Test match gatekeeper. I’m not. I’d rather watch myself bat than see Sibley in an England shirt again. But it is painful to watch someone being careless when they’re batting. If he was English I’d be sick as a chip knowing he’s going daft, and I think many others on here would too.

Yeah fair points mate, there does need some balance, and sounds like he tipped the balance too far.

Just there seems at times people are more critical of players playing attacking shots trying to score runs and getting out to those attacking shots than they are players getting out to defensive shots not trying to score runs.

Guess it’s about seeing what happens after a longer sample size, it’s like the current England cricket side some like the approach and some don’t, but there winning a lot more games than there did under a previous approach so it justified.

Maybe watch it? That would be useful.
