TEST MATCH :: England v Pakistan

Time for Burns to get his chance.

Yeah probably. Stoneman may have comprehensively outscored him over the last 5 years at domestic level and Burns may not really have done quite enough to demand selection but unless he gets a load in the second innings then its probably the right call.

Azhar Ali
Imam-Ul-Haq aka baby Inzi
Sohail
Shafiq
Babar Azam
Sarfaraz
Faheem Ashraf
Shadab Khan
Mohammad Amir
Mohammad Abbas
Hasan Ali

As shite at running between the wickets as his uncle

Next man up, that's all.

That's the message it sends out from the off, we don't trust our batsman. Bad psychology from the start IMO.

Abbas deserves that, that is a lesson in how to bowl in England in the spring.

So if we swapped the batting positions of Buttler and Bairstow around playing exactly the same team it would be OK because we would be having our keeper allrounder at 7?

How frigging hard is it to find a decent opener? How many have we been through since Strauss retired?

Compton, Root, Carberry, Robson, Trott, Lyth, Modern, Jennings, Duckett, Hameed, Stoneman..... I'm sure I've missed some

Edit: Hales

The paks always seem to have quality bowlers suited to our conditions. Thats why I always look forward to them as opponents. Inexcusable that its only a two test series.

That Abbas looks tidy, be surprised if he isnt snapped up by a county team. looking forward to see Hasan Ali and the leggie Khan. Both spikey characters.

Stoneman's technique and temperament just aren't cut out for test match cricket. I think he has a really good eye and natural ability but he hasn't got long left in the side.

You'd think he needs a ton in this series to make it to the India series

Sending your new (or old, tried and failed) bat in after your all-rounder and your 'keeper sends out the message that you a) don't trust your batting line-up and b) you don't think your new (old) batsman is worth a place in the batting order.

If you're going to pick a batsman (or go back to someone who's failed a number of times) then put him in the top order, show him you believe in him, otherwise you're just pissing around.

His technique is pretty good and usually gets him decent starts IMO. Theres a lot said about technique but Cook's is awful at times and hes one of the heaviest run scorers in the history of the game because he has an outstanding temperament. All openers are going to get their share of single figure scores its what you do when you get to 30+ that makes the difference. I would agree with you about temperament, I think Stoneman struggles when the ball gets soft and the scoring dries up as he then ends up getting out of a forcing shot when he is well set. That has been his failing in test cricket rather than his ability against the new ball.

Beefy to bumble (Accrington fan) where are you going to stick the 6000 Sunderland fans when they come to town?

Bumble says there's a hill out the back we can sit on.

I think his defence is shoddy and he's very loose as well. Good at county level but the step up looks too much for him.

Must be nailed on for a County contract for the second half of the season, he's a prototype to bowl over here. Shame about the series, I agree.

Yikes, that's a horror from the skipper.
