Tax on takeaway boxes

Anyone who buys a takeaway is paying a tax on lazyness anyway.

Its for plastic boxes. Pizzas come in card boxes so it wont apply.

Expect more of this brexit has to be paid for so the bums and scroungers can have their dream. Would you expect others to buy what you want, even if you don’t know them, or they are struggling to begin with. They don’t care.

Vat applies to takeaways, right?

It depends. If you are a restaurant also selling takeaway, then all the takeaway food has VAT on regardless of the temperature.

If you are a takeaway selling hot food, then the food has VAT on. If you are selling cold takeaway food, you don't have to charge VAT (unless the food is not zero rated, then VAT needs to be added).

Bakers selling pasties get round it as they don't intend to sell hot food and don't have facilities to keep it warm. However as it's freshly baked, you might get a hot one that's just out of the oven and hasn't cooled down yet.

North East Foodies will self combust at this news

5p on carrier bags was pre brexit. This is just an extension of that

No problemo , just buy a box for life, and rock up at your local takeaway and say put it in here mate. Might turn a bit yellow after a couple of visits to the local Delhi Belli, but it its a case of saving 5p not to mention the planet, then count me in.
Good idea Maghater lad, count me in

That’s just it, rather than ban their use better to make money from it

The carrier bag levy goes to charity doesnt it? (And the government creams off a penny in VAT of course)

The same could apply. Im not a fan of banning things would rather try to discourage instead. Which is what this is. Most takeaways come in card boxes or foil cartons anyway so it shouldnt be that a big issue.

Classic SMBism.

All people who buy takeaways are lazy fuckers who should be preparing delicious hot meals with fresh ingredients from scratch every meal time.

My wife prepares the whole family a healthy wholesome 3 course dinner every day and it only costs us 5p a head and she never complains.

Dirty bastards. Tax them.

No , some supermarkets pass it to charity but the rest just keep it
