Takeover Rumours

I hope whoever takes over at the helm brings with them a fixer who understands (from experience) the market we operate in, who in turn puts in place their own team with a very clear brief and approach to managing the off field aspects, recruitment, youth development, long term strategy, what are our aims?

@Reiver mentioned an adviser? Perhaps he used to live round Reivers way even? One with a PASTA record of reviving a team fallen on hard times in Div1 and guiding them back to the PL from the CEOs office? One who wouldn’t need to change his tie for his first interview? Mebbes even knows Reivers marra mentioned upthread?
All pure guesswork that mind! 2+2=?

Ross spunked £3/4 million on grigg

Which will be forever used as an excuse by people as to why we shouldn’t ever spend money on a footballer again. That player has been a disaster for this football club on two very distinct levels.

Firstly because he’s crap

Secondly, and more importantly, he’s the reason that is dragged out by the owners and their supporters as the main reason why the Donald and Methven can get away with making a profit over the summer and weakening a team that finished in the lowest position in our history last season

I'll reserve judgement on who would be a better bet than Jack Ross.

If we're talking a Di Canio or Poyet type who were very good players but not much in the way of experience in management, and more than slightly eccentric to add, then no thanks.

If we're talking an Eddie Howe who has proven he can mould a team that can establish itself in the top flight, with comparatively little funds, then that's another matter.

'Knowing the game inside out, doesn't necessarily translate to appointing the right manager for us.

Give Jack Ross 5 million quid to bring a centre forward in then I'm convinced he's the right man for us at this level. Whether or not he is the right man in the Championship remains to be seen and is up for debate.

To get us out of this league, we don't need much, but we do need a quality addition up front. Without that we're not going up; with that we certainly are.

Ross has shown he can get hold of players with little money and they can shine in this league. He clearly has a team around him who have an eye for a player. He's just missing that one player, but with little money how does he get hold of him?

If this takeover does happen and there's money available, we certainly don't need a Keane shipping loads of money and landing us in a boat load of debt to get us up; we need a Ross who will spend wisely on the right players while keeping us financially on an even keel.

I wouldn't argue with that, but I think Ross deserves a chance given that he was part of a set up that stopped the rot.

Howe has spent a fortune at Bournemouth

Howe has spent shitloads mind

Comparatively. These days top flight players who will never do much more than play for teams trying to scramble out of the relegation places are going for upwards of 20 million.

He's done an outstanding job there. There are bigger clubs down South who would give their collective right arm for that. Plymouth, Bristol City, Portsmouth and plenty up North too: Sunderland, Hull, Middlesbrough, Leeds and so on.

He's done a right old job there.

He didn't. But you can forgive him for thinking a player with a track record of scoring goals at this level would do it again. Grigg has let him down badly.
I don't think the fact that Grigg knew fuck all about the move and seemed surprised and probably didn't want to come here has helped !

I didn't know any of that, but for Wyke to get a game ahead of him he must be absolute dogshite in training. I can't begin to imagine how bad Grigg must look in training.

None the wiser but it sounds like a plan.

I was standing next to Donald, at Peterborough, and they were just in front recording all through the game.

What a story that will be mind if it does all go well and we end up challenging in the top half of the premier league with good cup runs as well

I'd be happy with that tbh but if it does end up crazy and we somehow end up challenging at the top or in the champions league... wouldn't know what to do with myself tbh

Feel ya passion mate but wont happen he is on his way out .Love the bit where you say he has people round him that have an eye for a player ha ha.Im drinking doom bar at the moment please tell me your tipple mines obviously not strong enough

Well from the euphoria of the week before last of a few wins, we win in the cup against a PL team while our neighbours lose, talk of the takeover happening in a few days and hopeful of at least 3 new faces.... we couldn't be more flat ! What a difference 3 days make

The pounds just fallen against the dollar again, so the Dell boys are certainly picking up a bargain, assuming they’ve agreed the price in sterling.
