I think a business likes ours needs a Methven - someone who will challenge tired or lazy behaviours and push people to get more out of them. I remember the comment he made about the Ticket Office/Admin staff all "leaving at 4.55pm" and I agree with him to a degree. Every successful business has someone like him.

Having said that, I wouldn't want him anywhere near the media or the "front of shop". His dirty work needs to happen off-camera and away from the public eye.

Again, not necessarily saying Methven, but someone like him. The likes of Donald and Davidson were too soft
Disagree, yes you need to get rid of the lazy attitudes but people with his pompous , bullying, patronising manner get people's backs up, heads go down and good people leave. You need someone to inspire and unite

Depends on the situation. Depends on the people. A good man manager can read the situation and get the best out of people. That said, if there was (and is) a lazy attitude to marketing/retail etc (as was suggested in STID) then it absolutely needs someone to put a rocket up their arses.

It all depends on the type of people you are dealing with. Years ago, my MD was an absolute cunt - used to bollock me (and others) for no obvious reason and have no consistency of approach. My response was "I'll f***ing show you" and it got the best out of me. It goes to show, that this approach can work if you use it on the right people

Exactly, can’t help but think that skin is getting thinner around Wearside. You saw what Methven was from the moment he rolled into town. I’ve been livid with some of decisions made on his watch, undoubtedly made through trying to get us up on the cheap, which has failed miserably. These words that people get so vexed about though. You know what, we do have short patience with owners up here, Bob Murray was given dogs abuse. We’re all sick of living off past glories. We need links in to sources of wealth that simply aren’t locally available though. If Methven continues to ensure we’re circulated around wealthy circles then to be honest I couldn’t give a flying f if he’s called us some nasty words during some heated exchanges at talk ins.

I don't agree with that at all.

Bob 'Mr Relegation' Murray did get dogs abuse but his list of failings were evident for all to see and the fans had every right to vent their frustration IMO. It had nowt to do with being thin skinned. Whilst plenty people have commented on here anther places, at the games Drumaville didn't receive any stick from the crowd and neither did Short until he left and got a pint poured over him.

In fact the only time I remember Sunderland fans openly protesting against the board was under Murrays ownership. If fans were allowed in the ground, I reckon we would be adding Donald and Methven to that list but again I think they would deserve it.

In all honesty I've been going since 1985 and have no ill feeling towards any of our former owners but I really cannot stand these two pricks and their little chimp Rodwell. I want them all gone.

He's a subtle as a flying mallet, but you get what you see. But there are some desperately thin skins, others reacting because of his background, and, in some cases, a tendency to inverted snobbery.
Not sure that's fair tbh, he was widely welcomed at first. It was after he started messing things up, came across badly for many people in the documentary and made disparaging comments about supporters that things turned.

Its Storey what has got me baffled, obviously hes some prankster or its some prankster but what exactly is he hoping to achieve. He's twitter profile seems to change every week, when I first copped eyes on his profile I am sure it was just founder of rich energy then he adds ceo of wolf data (partner of Richmond rugby club) then hes a boxing manager, whatever next cricket umpire.

Embleton is the name that most are offering for this. I really like the lad and want to see him get much more footy going forward. However, I would choose Diamond to bring in. Gooch is one of the only players on our team who will carry the ball at pace and commit defenders. With him out of the team it's an element that we sorely lack. Diamond does that better as far as I can see.

Depends on the formation. If we stick with Parkinson's aye, I would have Diamond and Gooch on the pitch - I'd have Gooch as a striker (can anyone else in our squad both shoot and run - seems not to me), and therefore would have Diamond in the wing back role. Hell, why not get them rotating as game develops, that'd fuck some man to man marking teams right up, which is important as many teams have worked out that an effective ploy against us is to go man to man on the wing-backs.

If we switched to a more sensible formation under a new manager, then Gooch is back on the wing and Hume is an option on the other flank. I don't think Hume can do left-back in a back four, really don't. So Diamond and Gooch seem under more direct competition in that scenario.

Methven is a dangerous animal as he sees himself as the ultimate intelligent being. He has basically no self doubt... this is his inheritance.

Combined with his privilege and sense of entitlement, he is the worst possible fit for our club and this area.

The bloke looks down on us - he sees us as a bunch of thick northern twats.

Ironically his stereotyping of us in his numerous statements simply proves the point that education, inheritance and background does not equal intelligence and common sense, but his blinkered view of existence simply doesn't allow him to see it.

If he wasn't such a ballsack I would feel sorry for him.

Just another Etonian sociopath.

Tbf, if he told me he'd been running the Covid-19 test and trace strategy, I wouldn't be surprised.

Yup. The key issue for Methven is his crass incompetence. He can talk about Donald's failings as much as he likes - for there are many as we know all too well - but until he confronts his own dreadful failures and utter lack of football understanding, he's someone I want nowhere near any football decisions of note at SAFC.

Aye, he has all the worst traits of the upper-class Tory dialled up to 11 - awful man. Self-doubt is important, allows perspective and empathy. Awful man.

You've fallen for my trap and followed me into the wrong thread too, marra:lol:

Get this printed on a git massive banner like the Celtic lot do, for the first game back - beautiful.

Sure. But the absolute absurdity of Methven is that he has no actual experience running a large company like this, no credibility and no understanding of how important those qualities are to management. He's just a mouth - why not get someone in who knows how to be constructively critical, not the demotivating, megaphone level critical that armchair people think motivates people, but actually does not (as anyone with the actual corporate experience, would know).

It'd be like letting the average SMB pundit run the first team - we might pick the right team, we might slam the players for fair enough reasons. But we'd have zero credibility and the entire dressing room would f***ing hate us - so we'd massively fuck it up. That's what he did.

Just love tactics so much marra, will talk about it - often with you - anywhere.

Spot on,which worries me with this new French lad.Young and rich,he will need to be harry potter .I think SD CM had a honeymoon period ,just hope this lad gets one.

I’ve been going since the same period and totally get the frustration, as I said in my post, we’ve lived off scraps and past glories for a stupidly long length of time. It’s inevitable we do have limited patience. I just think that CM might have played his part in us ending up (eventually) with an ownership structure that’ll give us a chance to get back to where we ought to be. For that reason I’ll put up with him and let bygones be bygones.

Nixon seeming to infer it's still at a due diligence stage? Would suggest it's a way off being sorted if true. Doesn't tie in with those saying it's all signed and agreed.

In my experience, this says more about the workplace than the employees and it's a poor way of assessing someone's performance or attitude towards their work.

On an individual level, there can be good reasons people need to leave and arrive at certain times and it often doesn't reflect their commitment to the company one way or the other.
