I keep this private at the time because I wasn't sure where it would go, but I am pretty certain I'll have nothing to do with them so...



A few weeks ago I was introduced to a schoolfriend of Charlie's completely by chance (we were introduced by email by a TV producer in America). He is starting a business in the US, in my sector, and was referred to me as someone who had done so. Interestingly, as soon as he found out I was a SAFC fan he mentioned Charlie and said he didn't know whether that would count in his favour or not.

In that meeting he:

1. Was baffled by someone from the North East being involved in the sector I am, with the success we have had. This is despite him quite literally trying to do the same from London (it's not a surprise when people like him do it, it is a surprise when people like me do it).
   
   
2. In one of the most arrogant and misjudged things I've ever heard, tried to get me to merge my company into his to help his first investment round, despite us being hundreds of thousands of x bigger than his.
   
   
3. Told me Charlie was a hacking bastard at football

I just thought it was breathtaking the way he spoke about American people as almost sub-human and how his company with foundations of sand was just absolutely going to destroy every established company over there, simply because he believes it.

These comapanies are clearly dominant and have raised tens of millions already, have established userbases etc, and his plan is literally to just not do anything different . It was a fascinating insight into how these people are convinced that they can't fail and how the old-boys network had helped him do things that many of us would have loved to have had 'starting out' with a plan that has zero edge.

He'd raised £2m in a week by virtue of meeting someone in his communal apartment garden during lockdown who ran a family office.

I guess what we have to remember is that these people, no matter how bad they are at this, no matter how little knowledge or talent they have, they always fall upwards as long as they can keep the Public Schoolboy aura of knowing what they're doing around themselves. Just like Charlie, if at first it sounds like he's confident (as it did here), people turn a blind eye to the huge red flags that suggest that he is actually not that great at what he does.

He'd also used some creative numbers to get that investment too, because those little white lies/exaggerations don't matter to these people as long as they can get some cash in and hopefully paper over the cracks later. Again, think about how CM tried to use creative phrasing during that first year to justify what they were doing on the basis that if they could get promoted, hopefully nobody would ask questions about the debt Madrox owed us.

Just thought that story might interest a few of you.

Throwing accusations about of inverted snobbery completely miss the point. Where somebody went to school or their background in general is irrelevant. One question, are they alright or not, that is it.
He isn’t alright.

It's not irrelevant though- these institutions are built to dominate and so churn out a particular type of person, imbued with character traits that are eerily similar.

Background needs to be taken into account as often if you can understand where somebody has been, you can form a decent idea of where they are going.

Yes and Methven shouldn't be involved in making footballing decisions. One of the biggest downfalls of Donald and Methven is trying to do this alone without specialist people in specialist roles.

Donald and Methven are parasites. Did everything on the cheap for a quick flip of the club.Trying to play a big boy’s game. It failed and the club and its supporters are paying the price.

Witness the Glassdoor reviews of his PR firm and you can see that his approach was a toxic hindrance there as well. He's not good at what he does by any measure. His only 'talent' is the people he knows.

I work in the more politically-focused parts of the sector down here in London mate, his firm is two-bit and he's a nobody. Have been trying to tell people this, pretty much from the off. Chief Exectuive at a large company like us, throwing his weight around - unbelievable that anyone could think them capable for it, with his CV, but that's private school education for you.

The devil will be in the details for me, if Methven remains influential then I'll lose faith in the new ownership immediately. I don't mind him or Donald retaining a stake to simply sell when/if we make it back to the Prem, that's just common sense.

Sadly CM and SD have both proven incompetent at best, I'm willing to give Sartori a chance if he instantly removes their influence.

Stewie OWNS the Club. It is his property. He can do anything he wants. Sell. Keep. Rename. Change the colours. Anything. The only thing you can do is not go.

where did I say anything about being shareholders? Do you understand what agency means?

I would imagine most people who are buying an institution that depends upon and exists in large part for the community would not want to upset them on day one. Not the smartest idea to alienate your only potential customer base.

Background needs to be taken into account as often if you can understand where somebody has been, you can form a decent idea of where they are going.

However true that is, if it is not knocked out of them within a few years of them leaving said institution, usually as a result of their basic self awareness then it never will be and they should concentrate on eating themselves whole within the circumstances you describe instead of admonishing the rest of us for not having those misguided view on things.

They’re hoping to have it wrapped up by the end of the next week. Donald will be a silent shareholder, not involved in any plans moving forward. Methven however, will have some sort of role.

Donald is a bufoon...but Charlie is a different animal altogether.... And if he stays it Will tarnish the takeover and our club imho. Anybody who looks at what that slimy toad has Done to our club and fans loses my respect if they think keeping him on in anything above teaboys assistant is. Beneficial for our club.
