This is a much more interesting topic than the takeover that is always a week away IMO.

I'd love to see what league 1 will look like in about 3 years time if the cap remains. We surely aren't the only club paying players over 1.8k, so there will be a huge switch in either lots of league 1 players taking pay cuts or the overall quality of the league getting even worse than it currently is.

Unless say teams in the current top 10 spots are within the cap limits already and aren't working about it, which then switches the convo to how absolutely shit, value to form, our players currently are, and we are we paying them so much.

Are the EFL not acting inappropriately here? For example; Will Grigg. We've paid £3m for this asset, that we can no longer keep because his contract once expired will not be extendable. This leaves us in a position where we could argue that nobody would purchase him from us because he's guaranteed to be a free transfer.

They've basically devalued our assets, significantly. Jordan Willis, we can't keep him. Bailey Wright, we can't keep him. All these players have a value.

Nope, the squad needs entirely rebuilding on wages a third of what we currently pay.

So if 6k gets you max power, can you imagine what the current lot will get with 1.8k?

We can register 20 players next season over the age of 21. They won't involve Willis or power or a couple of others unless we get promoted or they take large wage cuts.

People have mentioned bonuses for minimal things as a manner of getting around things but that runs a risk. Also mentioned is under 21 players for over the cap but majority of those who are decent bets will be converted by championship clubs. Foreign players will be blocked by brexit soon enough so that takes our best way of running out of the equation.

Also, the wages of any unregistered players count from next season.

No more likely to be “stuck” in this league than anyone else. No one can buy their way out which imho is a good thing.

We will have to do it by being more resourceful than the rest. IE tactically cos all the half decent Brit players will be in the championship or SPL. L1 & L2 will be full of kids and local lads becos no one will be allowed to pay wages high enough to tempt anyone into moving to the other end of the country for a one or two year deal. First months wages will be eaten up by removal mens fees to get to new house and moving again at the end of the contract.

Gonna be a lot of yo-yo clubs between L1 and the Championship until the PFA actually do their job which won’t happen until Taylor’s gone.

I think these types of arguments are much more likely to succeed than the PFA led ones, for what it's worth.

I agree, I just don't think the PFA have a legitimate legal case any more than Storey does. Ultimately it is not discriminatory, it does not unfairly stop a player moving between clubs because of his own contract... in effect if they couldn't challenge FPP/SCMP then they can't challenge this.

Now SAFC on the other hand, as an entity, we may very well have a case if we are willing to go down that route. If we can demonstrate that we have cash that would be reasonable to spend on players, we could challenge the jurisdiction of the EFL, but I I think all of it is doomed to fail, or at least go on way too long to make a difference next season.

It’d be our revenge on the FL for the straw money scapegoating.

The EFL are not responsible or involved in transfer fees or contract offers made by clubs. If ANY club want to offer 3m for Will Grigg, that's their business, they're not grannies saying "ere, ye canny do that" ...A Scottish granny. SD sanctioned that deal "I promised the fans a striker"

Couldn't disagree more with that bit im afraid mate. Absolute farce that a club that pulls in 30k is constrained to.compete on the same terms as the likes of mk dons, Shrewsbury, and the like.

The bigger clubs should be able to buy their way out of this league. Why shouldn't we be able to.do that when the championship and Premier league clubs can spend freely? Why shouldn't we be able to spend the money we earn?

If Peterborough spend a sustained period in league 1 its fine for them. If we do it will have a significant impact on the club. Crowds will dwindle as interest fades away.

I agree with what you’re saying, if things were left as they were we’d be able to spend big when/if new owners take over and hopefully be out of this shithole asap. But as it stands we’re hamstrung along with the other bigger teams trying to play our way out with what we have available.

As for new signings, we can only hope that players realise that the wages are pretty much the same at any club but see us as a better option if they’re ambitious and looking to promotion out of this league. Unfortunately I think most players at this level would choose to stay local to where they are from if the money is the same.

Maybe we can offer better bonuses for games won, goals, promotion etc.

If you were only allowed to spend a percentage of your turnover it would be fairer. It would give advantages to teams who pull in more crowds and generate more money and also safeguard against reckless spending.

Totally agree. But league 1 club owners seem to want to argue that this is impossible to police. This current cap is a sham.

Hopefully we can find an edge on other clubs somewhere. I fear the reality may be different and we become an also ran league 1 club.

I’ve no faith in the PFA being able to accomplish anything worthwhile tbh. Legal challenges from individual clubs or a group of likeminded ones may be more successful.
