Takeover News/Rumours - Part 42

Of course we can offer a new contract. Although, granted, the cap makes it difficult.

But the point is that if there genuinely was a takeover happening they'd have started this process, surely? We're now in the territory of them being offered deals by other clubs. Hume and Willis will have interest in the championship.

I fear the reality is donald knows he can't afford to keep them on so will quite happily let them go to be replaced by inferior alternatives. Yet again. We can't continue to let assets go for nothing.

Sure, we can offer power and willis less than half of what they're on now. Can't see it going down to well.
there’s always an excuse

another ready made one here like?

why couldn’t they offer them in the summer like

not a clue

nobody

They could have. They didn't. Now, they can't.

Yes they can

Yeah they can offer willis and power less than half of their current wages, I don't think it would go very well.
Would hope that the first thing they do is to offer new contracts to Diamond and Embleton as U21s. There's only really Hume out of the rest that I'd be too bothered about

I can't see hume staying. I'd imagine he could get more than 2k per week elsewhere.

Diamond does what he did against Lincoln a couple more times, same goes for him. He needs a contract now.

I'd take my chances elsewhere if I as embleton. The only way he gets first team football here is if we don't get taken over here and we struggle for a squad next season.

I assume next years contracts go to next years cap. So bearing in mind we have 20 permanent players out of contract at the end of this season (all over 21) why can we only offer them a contract for half their wages?

Currently at our max only due to the soft cap this season. Max power and willis only count as 1.8k, once they have renewed it counts as full. So if we offered power half of his wages, I.e 3k, it would actually count as 1.2k more towards our cap.

I dont follow mate. Surely any future contracts count towards the point at which those contracts start? Its surely completely irrelevant to current wage spend.

Yeah I reckon we only keep Hume if we get promoted so we can just wait till the end of the season to see what happens. We should offer contracts to both of the young'uns now, though - or as soon as a takeover is confirmed. Not that arsed about any of the other expiring contracts.

Yeah but what people are saying, is that this year we are probably under the cap by some way because of the rule. If we offered all of these players the exact same wages though, we'd be some way over it, so one way or another we're losing some of these players.

I think were getting confused mate.

There is a soft cap in place at the moment, so any contract that was signed before the vote counts as the divisional average. So max power counts as 1.8k per week despite that he is actually on 6k per week. The second he signs a new deal, it counts in full towards the cap.

So theoretically we're 2k under the cap as it stands, we wouldn't be able to keep everyone registered if max power was to sign a contract on half of the money he is currently on.

There is one in particular that I'm fussed about but already made my peace with.

Best part of 3 times over by my reckoning.

Does extending contracts have the same outcome as signing new ones ?
