It's because he's never been promoted. The simple truth is that. for most of the last 20 years, City have been a yo-yo club between the second and third tiers. I ought to know, because I've had to listen to City fans moaning about it. He's actually got them overachieving in relation to that. The owner's rich, but he's put his money into redeveloping Ashton Gate and getting a John Hall sports conglomerate based there (like moving Bristol Rugby there); he's not chucked that much, relatively speaking, at players. The big worry for me is that his teams have done well until March, and then their form has fallen off a cliff. Whether that's down to lack of squad depth, or bottling it, I don't know.
