That much at least is true, It's very believable that he wasn't fully aware of the horrible problem of tweaking a squad with the idiotic rules in place.
I would not describe the rules as idiotic mind. Somebody has to save football clubs from themselves as the whole industry is committing financial hari-kari.

It is a shame that authorities further up the ladder are more toothless.

The league is only a competition if there is participants in it with a chance of competing.

There are a dozen or so out of contract at the end of this season, iirc.
Yeah but doesn’t the way the wage cap is structured not give us much to play with? Whether the players out of contract are worth keeping is debatable but their replacements basically need to come for about 1.7k a week per head, max. Maybe the market will adjust as it’s a level playing field, but good luck getting much quality with that.

I see the sense in that but FFP was the solution
A random, flat salary cap that doesn't reflect the clubs' ability to fund that figure is idiotic

As usual in football, a good idea gets implemented in the stupidest way possible
See VAR etc (but that's another rant) ...

It wouldn't shock me if he didn't think about this part to such an extent in initial negotiations and it's only come front of mind as he's about to commit.

The previous system of % of turnover was a better way of doing it, but it needed tweaking to narrow down what was allowable income. It needed to exclude transfer income and owner inputs. In other words, a percentage of trading income only. The salary cap is ridiculous in a league with such wide disparities in income between its members.

So the PR machine will create the impression that they have relinquished control and are now silent partners.

It is up to us and time will tell to see if that is believable.
100% that will be what they will try and do. I suspect the DOF post has been created for that very reason.

For some it will be irrelevant of what involvement they have; they will just want them gone otherwise they arent coming back.

I personally don't want them to retain a stake so they can potentially profit out of us. They've caused enough damage. I just want them out.
