Surprised they have gone for both Wood and Woakes given the lack of cricket/injuries they have had this summer
 
Judging by that squad we’re just going to absolutely pack the team with all rounders and hope for the best.

Morgan's approach to the game was heavily influenced by McCullum who is a big advocate of 'no dickheads'/'fit in or f off' approach. Now that McCullum is involved in the structure - and I know he's not in ODIs but his good mate is - I can't see the stance on Hales changing.

Think this would signal the end to any hope he had of a recall now

That would be my by team from the squad picked, if Stokes is fit to bowl 2 overs a game/combine that with Livingstone, then could see a specialist bat (depending who replaces Bairstow) coming in for Ali or Rashid, as dont think 8 overs of spin will be needed on these pitches.

Stokes has to open for me, still dont really think he should be in the team but he can win matches from opening
Just reading the cricinfo article regarding the squad, seems Hales was the 2nd choice to open behind Bairstow, he also rang Key himself to argue why he should be going after being left out.
puts Key in a tough spot now if he fails to pick Hales as Bairstows replacement.

Yeah I read the same article, he wasn't betting on an opener dropping out that's for sure

Stokes will probably be knackered after the test this week and withdrawn so they can get him back fit and firing for the Tests in Pakistan .
Can’t see us making the last 4 this time

It wasn’t so much a put down, just pointing out a fact because it appeared as though your post was bemoaning a lack of homegrown coaches in the setup.

Which for the record matters not one bit.

I don’t give a toss where they come from, I just want them to be good at what they do.
