T20 Blast 2025

Trouble is, however much we wish this to be the case, it isn’t any more. The regional franchise stuff is the country’s premier white ball tournament.

I have tended to liken what the ECB did with regional franchising with what the WRU did a generation ago. They didn’t abolish the club sides as such. Club rugby still exists in Wales and the “feeder” clubs still participate in the Welsh Premier division. But it faded over a few years to an irrelevancy nobody really watches any more. But I’m not sure you could say the franchise stuff has been much of a success either.

Welsh rugby certainly is. And that seems to be the direction of travel for English cricket.
I know, I'm just being facetious calling the Blast the premier tournament.

It should be, but the managed decline of the domestic game has killed it.

I've cancelled both County memberships, and haven't bothered with any tickets for any domestic or international games. The ECB kept telling me to fuck off, so after a while, I did.

Plenty of adverts around the area. This was a cracking tournament with record crowds that the ECB has totally destroyed and would like to go away let’s be honest

wouldn’t mind a finals day or at least a quarter final.
Yep. A little quoted fact but before The Hundred came into being, the Blast was flying and generating record crowds and interest.

Staggering that instead of building on top of that, the ECB let it rot and introduced an entirely new competition with brand new teams playing a format nobody else in the world plays.

Yep. I wish I could find the article but iy basically said more people watched live cricket in England than at any point in history

Winds me up so much

Just bought the £35 ST using the ALLSTARS25 discount.

See yous all tomorrow. Would post on the Durham specific thread but I'm the last person to post

The Blast has always been a brilliant competition quality players and superb entertainment.

I have made no secret of the fact I love T20 cricket and the blast finals day is my favorite cricket day of the year, always has been.

I have had many debates on here years ago praising the blast well before the hundred even thought off.

Where I was praising the blast it to the hilt when many posters were saying there was too much T20 cricket and the blast too high profile and was spoiling the techniques of batsman for red ball cricket.

At times I was somewhat of a lone voice praising The Blast while many others were critical off it.

So forgive me when I find it ever so slightly ironic now, with the growing influence of the IPL and The Hundred ( which are also both entertaining)

That posters are now saying how great a competition the blast is ;)

T20 attracted a new audience mainly family orientated whereas the old guard maintained their preference for the traditional form of the game. Whilst T20 was a new terminology and new to professional cricket it existed since the 1930s at club level and appealed to all ages. You certainly weren't a lone voice praising T20 as attendances testified. The faster form of the game was specifically designed to appeal to youngsters who quite understandably found the longer form boring. If the shorter form of the game doesn't appeal that doesn't equate to criticism. Some take great offense at the use of the term "hit and giggle". It was designed to be that-lots of hitting and light-hearted.Nothing ironic about cricket followers having diverging views on which format they prefer or any right or wrong in preference nor should it be about point scoring. That belongs to "your dad can fight my dad" level of communication.
Live and Let live.
I'm sure all sectors are looking forward to this evenings T20 curtain raiser-as it should be.

None of that although mostly fair.

Answers the question that all of sudden a lot more people are imo praising ‘ The blast’ and saying what a wonderful competition it is, than they were 10 years ago.

Personally always thought it was a great competition settled down to watch Somerset Surrey last night on the stream and throughly enjoyed it

Yes,that's compared to the 16.4 it is a great competition which is ott with the noise and gimmicks.
Don't understand "none of that but mostly fair".

Have you had your ticket e mailed to you or sent via the app? I bought mine about 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing. I rang the ticket office on Thursday and was told they were sending e mails out later that afternoon, nothing received so far.

You download it from your account. So if you sign in you should find it there.

I only got sent a receipt via email.
