Surrey v Durham CC 2025

That’s harsh. I saw them both. If Boycott had batted for a day and a half he’d done well to make 200. I saw what I am pretty sure was his last first class century at Middlesbrough, and it took him forever on what wasn’t that big a ground. And the test version of Tavare would be about 65 not out.
Geoffrey Boycott was a sleeping tablet on legs. But still, he did this!

Geoffrey Boycott achieved the rare feat of batting on all five days of a Test match during the third Ashes Test of 1977 at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. This match marked his return to Test cricket after a self-imposed three-year exile.

Here’s how it unfolded:

  • He scored 107 runs in the first innings.
  • Then followed it up with an unbeaten 80 in the second innings.
  • He was at the crease at the end of Days 1, 2, and 4, and batted again on Days 3 and 5, completing the full set.

Only a handful of players in cricket history have managed this quirky but impressive milestone. Boycott was the second player ever to do it, after India’s ML Jaisimha.

And, he found time to run out Derek Randall!

Are we seriously just trying to bat out over 200 overs with zero intent to score?

We need some recruitment this morning as so far this summers recruits have offered next to nothing.

Rhodes has been painful to watch in 4 day cricket he can play shots as his has done in T20.

But dear god in this format!

Surprised they haven't put a tighter slip cordon in. A few balls flying off the bat in that direction.

Rhodes had been poor in this format. He had been dropped earlier on this season. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but maybe badger should have played, at least his leggies would have given their batters something different to think about. Probably hit it for 4 or 6 but it would have been something different

Left arm seamer, different angle. Something we did not offer

I know we’re playing the best team in the country away but is it harsh to think that questions need to be asked of North and Campbell at the end of this season? We were being talked of as challengers to the likes of Surrey before a ball was bowled but it is clear that we are absolutely miles behind them and in fact we’ve gone backwards since last season in the longest format.

Very disappointing season. North seems to think he’s playing cricket’s version of Football Manager. Campbell talked about us mimicking Bazball and whilst we did for a year and a half under him we seem a million miles away from that stile of play now.

Cant see us possing 200 overs and surviving, there needs to be some sort of pressure on the bowlers. Hope Robinson stays in as he will score with momentum. Feel theres been far too much respect for Surrey by us in this game.

Great advert for the FTECB to get their wish of reducing the championship

They really could finish the job with the use of the crap ball all games

It seems that way but you also have to consider that our best player has not featured all season, bar one game iirc when he was still carrying an injury

100% agree with this. I posted the other day that our batting is fragile and our bowling at times has been toothless - if you'd have attempted to put us under a bit of pressure, the game could be very different.

Instead, your heads dropped quite quickly in the field, and the safety first batting has shown us faaaaar too much respect.

Still fully expect this to end in a draw, but you've not even tried to give yourselves a chance of victory

Last season the bowling fell apart under pressure from injuries and call ups, this season that's extended to the batting, no Beddingham!

A main issue this season is recruitment. Who has joined since Ackerman who has been worthy of a place?

And what about the youngsters, Hogg aside? Are any pickable?

Not just that mate but there’re batting bonus points available and we don’t seem the least bit interested in trying to secure those.

Yeah, that's another factor. Not even trying for the bonus points man, even if it does go as badly as DCCC seem to expect, come away with something.

The way Curran is bowling, minto would be the obvious choice, call me old fashioned I like a balanced attack and not the packing of left handed batters at the top of the order.

Tbf we had no chance of victory after electing to bowl first....but I take your other points. Our batters dont have the discipline to bat defensively so as we have seen already scoring slowly just adds to the pressure.
At least we might see some shots now Robinson is at the crease...he will play his natural game

The blame for recruitment lies with Marcus North. He should be nowhere near our club. Must admit I was happy we signed Rhodes but he had been a big let down. However I highlighted at the start of the season, the bowling recruitment has not been good enough and the amount of injuries we get, something isn't right with their training setups and that needs desperately addressing
