Support our City Centre - Sunderland

Enjoyed a pint in the sun outside there yesterday.
Me too ( in fact three or four !)
Sunderland is now easily just as good as Newcastle for daytime drinking. Other than the Quayside on a sunny day, I can’t think of why I’d want to choose Newcastle over Sunderland at the minute. And I live closer to Newcastle. The added benefit of Sunderland as well is that it’s a smaller centre and more compact so it’s less of a trek to get from one bar to the next. That route from Green Terrace down Low Row, round the Dun Cow, Keel Square and now Sheepfolds (especially when the bridge opens) will be as good as anywhere in the north east imo. And this isn’t even including our beautiful coastline with all its bars and restaurants. Sunderland is honestly underrated.
Was talking to a nice couple from outside the area who had come in for the gig at the fire station in Fri
They loved it -stayed over in hotel -and went to sheepfolds ( class they said ) and then pubs around gig
Loved the two days they were here
We really need to get behind these places if people are able -that weather didn’t half hep

I think the council should be looking at doing some targeted marketing campaigns around the weekends of home games to encourage away fans to stay in Sunderland. Far too often when you speak to away fans at home games they tell you they're staying in Newcastle.

There was even a few clubs last year that just encouraged their away fans to drink in Jameson’s because it the only away friendly pub in Sunderland.

In reality, I reckon Sunderland is the friendliest place to drink as an away fan. As long as you’re respectful and don’t make your mouth go, you’ll be welcomed almost anywhere.

We need to break that negative rhetoric that Sunderland is a run down, edgy place to drink. It’s not even true

Agree with all that. With the added bonus of being home in 10/15 mins in a taxi for most residents.

Still enjoy Newcastle for an odd night out but could not be arsed trawling through there every weekend.

Few times ive been on metro and away fans have been getting off stadium of light and ive told them to get off in the town. One group, think may have been plymouth i took them to park lane and walked them round to cooper rose and pointed them down the street passed fitzegeralds towards fire station and that. A think they stayed mostly in cooper rose like as couldnt believe the prices 🤣

After all the chaos of last weekend, I think it's time to give our city's economy and outlook a boost.

Whether it’s going out for a meal, having a few drinks, watching a movie, bowling, or shopping...

Who's in?
I'm always in...Sunderland first every time.

I personally wouldn't go into neither City centre on a summer's day for day drinking.

Start off at the Sheepfolds, 10 minute walk to New Derby, then you've got the choice of heading down Sea Road way with the Blue Bell or Roker way with the Queen Vic and Roker Hotel, either route finishes off with Promenade then The Stack which takes ya into the early hours.

Uber has a really good service in the City so taxis won't even be an issue

Had a few drinks in The Sheepfolds yesterday. Good beer selection and nice atmosphere. It's going to do well on match day. It'll be interesting to see how they adapt to the weather, but I'm sure they'll have a plan. There were a lot of people standing up because they wanted to be in the sun, so it shows there were plenty of seats. We didn't have food, so can't comment on that. However we'll definitely go back.

We enjoyed the Inspirals and the dj in the Engine Room afterwards kept the mood going.... the Parade Ground was good as a venue.

Hope you got some decent food..... we sat outside The Peacock talking to police....really chilled atmosphere, it was good
Inspirals were class as always. Its a cracking venue but we didn't have time to go to Sheepfolds so had a couple in the Peacock first then food in the Fire Station. Went to the Dun Cow after for a pint then got an uber with the most racist driver alive!!!

I hope you reported him

I'm looking forward to a couple of pints on Sunday after the match. Plenty of choice of places to chose from now aswell.

By the way had my youngest to the bowls alley on Monday, a trip to the winter Gardens and a bit dinner out. Nice little day out

Immigrants are to blame for everything, riots are good. He was in the army so he knows stuff (I've just left the Forces after 30 years so most of what he was saying was bollocks!), then told us his ex wife took his kids off him and shes a peadophile and his other kids had been taken off him and he hasn't done anything wrong! My wife was just telling me to be quiet before I called him out on everything and it became a very messy situation! A lovely end to the night
