Sunderland

24 days without a death now 👍

Clearly the case numbers and hospital admissions are down significantly and so few/no deaths. I also wonder though how much more the icu doctors know now and how much dissemination of good ideas there has been between hospital trusts around the country. Look North Korea were on the ICU at the RVI doing a number of reports a few weeks ago and one of the head doctors there was talking about lessons they quickly learned by trial and error such as keeping people awake and sat upright when on a ventilator as this really improved outcomes, likewise on Newsnight a while ago an ICU director talked about how many more lives were being saved by going to CPAP and bipap rather than ventilators.

Clearly there's still lots to learn about the effects of the virus but if like to think the quacks have got more idea how to keep folks alive who might be in a bad way.

Then in other news some experts are talking of 120,000 further deaths between September and June next year so maybe the doctors have got nowt to fight this shit with....

More good news no deaths in the Sunderland Trust area.
23 days without a hospital death now.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but when you mention hospital deaths, is that just becase they dont announce if they have died in a care home due to covid19? And that deaths outside of hospitals are announced later and grouped together?

The 120K is a 'worst case' scenario - it might never happen.

Aye that's true mate. However we've lost 60,000 during a spring/summer so equally it could easily be fucked up beyond all recognition during Autumn/Winter with a flu season etc hoyed into the mix. If required another lockdown would be an option and everyone knows the drill now, I wonder if the economy can cope with that though.
