Sunderland

New weekly figures just published by gov show us still at a low 1.8 cases per 100k.

That includes pillar 1 and 2 testing week ending 28th June. We are now 113th (highest) in a table of 145 areas.

Leicester is number 2 (huge spike in a meat factory in Merthyr, 10 cases to 170) with a slight increase of 141 cases per every 100K people. 78 times more cases than us!

Also there were no coronavirus deaths in care homes week ending Friday 26th June.

Our last death in hospital was on Sunday 21st June.

No deaths across NE & North Yorkshire..according to the Northern Echo update.
An article in the Sunday Mirror is saying the R rate in the NE & Yorkshire could be as high as 1 - similar to London, which is seeing a rise in infections as their R rate has exceeded 1.

Yet more scare-mongering from the press - they have put no context to the statement and anyone reading that might assume the NE & Y is in the same boat as London.

Next weeks figures be interesting after the super Saturday fiasco across the country

If it's still the same that could really be a game changer
Was it a fiasco?

The vast majority of places seem to have had no bother at all.

The media were always going to focus on places where loads of young 'uns were expected to congregate - and, let's be honest, was it any worse than some of the mass protest marches we've seen recently or the illegal street parties being staged in parts of London and other cities?
