38k, new signings not played until far too late and Defoe giving an underwhelming return whilst we couldn’t score against bottom of the league Doncaster with a -35 goal difference.

This philosophy sh@t is a myth. Keep making the same mistakes week in, week out.
You can start with the academy but you need to take years to get the philosophy to every level of the team as the younger players come through. We are in the 3rd division and don’t have that luxury without killing the game for us. We can’t continue to play at this level. It is not sustainable.
If I was a manager l, I wouldn’t accept Speakman making the calls when he has little experience and doesn’t take the heat.
No different to other appointments that we have made. Most of the players brought in are young players on loan. This is Sunderland FFS.

Exactly. He can talk a good game but nothing so far has shown us he is even qualified for the DOF position.

In the recent Unfiltered podcast he described ‘the first team’ as an ‘area of the business’ which it is but if he thinks the academy, the club shop and other aspects of SAFC are as important as the first team and their on field performance then he needs to give his head a shake!
i think its simply that the first team is an area with its own budget, the academy a different area with its own budget etc..and speakman aportions his time between all of them on that basis

People slate Gooch and as frustrating as he is and the absolute mind farts he has, where are all the other attacking players and the quality balls forward?
