*~*~* Sunderland v Bristol City match thread *~*~*

Not the best, especially second half but we managed to get something, again. Last season we lose another game. That's my positive outlook.

My positive outlook is that we are currently only 2 points from 2nd spot. Millwall beat Sheff Utd tomorrow and the point we got tonight is good 👍

You must have seen lots of chance that I missed.
Bristol defended the sort of chance Roberts scored really well.how many times did the ball get pulled back from the byline only for the shot to be blocked? I really think we’re not far off but it’s looking less like not getting the rub of the green and more like we’re just not clinical enough
Our best player tonight
He was very good. Along with Neil I thought

BBC stats say 11 blocked shots out of a total of 21.

I said to my lads at the start of the season that we will be brilliant one game but could just not be able to get going the next because the youth in the team it’s hard to be consistent, the fact we are where we are shows they have done pretty damn well. Today and over last few weeks things haven’t been clicking. This is also done to players in and out of the team/injuries/suspensions so consistency is even harder.

Must say the ground seems pretty flat atmosphere wise. We are battling it out at top of the league with players including local youngsters of 17/18 yrs old and the crowd isn’t exactly being the 12th man they can be. Back up next week will bring the noise.

We struggle against 5 at the back, every team thats gone there against us has had joy. It negates our press and leaves us exposed in the wide areas - I'm no tactician but it's obvious to me.

Dominating as much as we did, especially first half, and not winning is criminal. We try to walk it in at times.

Another team not half as good as us, but wanting it more, who we couldn’t beat. It’s happening too often.

Ballard has been a liability this season. O’Nien straight back in please.

In the plus side, AA showing he has something to offer and we got a point when it looked like we weren’t going to.

As the deep lying player he is meant to be running the show. That’s exactly what he’s meant to do. He’s playing central midfield.

I haven’t singled out Neil for anything other than not doing what he started to do from 75 minutes earlier. He’s the experience in the middle, wearing the armband, and for me it’s not quite enough to just knock it side and back. When he stepped on it, he was much better.
Utter rubbish. He’s recycling the ball, dropping into the back 4 to cover for centre half’s taking it out of defence, winning it and passing it. He was great first half when all of the other you never mention were wasteful, taking too many touches, seeing our moves break down time and time again only for us (Neil more than anyone) recycle it again. He’s doing the job he is instructed to do very well. When we went behind we moved 20 yards further up the pitch and he was more of an attacking influence. He plays to orders he can’t just do what he wants.
