As the title Sunderland did not have enough players physically or mentally ready for the slog of Championship football at the start of the season.

To even have any hope of competing at the top end of the division will take a major rebuilding job and (on Sunderland's budget) a lot of bargain hunting over a few transfer windows.

Kone, Rodwell, O'Shea, Matthews, Oviedo, Gibson, Ndong, Cattermole and quite a few of the younger players were and are not fit for purpose at this level.

How some Sunderland fans think this squad is anything but relegation fodder is beyond comprehension.

As it was Sunderland appointed the man for the job, a manager with a proven track record of building strong teams on a shoestring budget.

But based on a poor start and a couple of poor signings (always going to happen when signing players on such a budget) chased him out after a few months.

Give Coleman time (2 - 3 seasons) and Sunderland will be back in the premier league.

Chase him out also and years in the doldrums as Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday, Man City etc await.

If the manager at the time, that we appointed had a proven track record, he would not have as many bad calls, abused the fans and turned them against him. His substitutions at times did not make any sense and the results proved that.

In agreement that players can be dross and you cannot polish a turd, but you can stop it becoming a problem so the blockage is removed. If CC turns this around,
The main difference will be in the signings.

Again with a proven record should not make as many bad signings. Anyhow, thanks for your views each entitled to own opinion. But expect opinions back

No chance that will happen, doldrums is nailed on for me. Even if he could get us up we'd still be skint. Without investment, the best we can hope for is yo-yoing.

Sadly it is all coming home to roost and people are at least realising what Coleman has at his disposal.

I would suggest only Oviedo and Grabban are capable of holding down a regular place at a club in a higher league position than ours.

The rest are genuinely not good enough to play in the division.

Any others that might make a fist of it at another club?

But it's not just squad quality is it? It's about squad chemistry. As one indicator, look at the pedigree of today's MotM. The majority of Barry Duffy's games have come at Scunthorpe and Burton.

and basic balance

team full of slow weaklings in general

who would have thought theyd struggle in the championship??!

Have posted on another thread that it's time everyone woke up to the blatantly obvious home truth that our squad is possibly the worst one ever assembled here.
To be relying on players like Honeyman, Gooch, Love ,Wilson, O'Shea, Vaughan, Cattermole (when he's available)Ruiter and Matthews etc etc is nothing short of disgraceful for a club of our alleged stature.

Time after time this season the lack of pace, hunger, strength and desire in our side has been humiliatingly exposed.

The squad is made up of ageing premier league has beens, cast offs and rejects. Coleman needs time and money.

Spot on Vic. There's some who still argue we've got one of the best squads in this league. It's clearly not the case

With everyone fully fit and motivated, we should easily be top half (I know that's a big "if")

Ruiter
Matthews Browning Kone Oviedo
McNair N'Dong
Watmore Williams McGeady
Grabban

Steele, Wilson, Gibson, McManaman, Rodwell, Maja, Asoro

That should more than a match for most teams in the league. Sadly, injuries and players not giving a shiny shite have contributed to the position we find ourselves in today.
