IIRC I was explaining that the potential dangers of walking through an estate in the middle of the night arise from the lack of footfall, and that the rougher parts of Hackney, Brixton, Tottenham etc are generally quite busy with people coming and going at every hour of the day, whereas if you were walking home pissed in the early hours of the morning and there wasn't a soul about, there's probably more chance if you getting robbed or attacked or whatever if you happened to encounter someone.
It was quite a few years ago now mind but always nice to be reminded that I live rent free in your head.

Can't imagine there's enough throughfall for anyone to want to invest in there. Needs to be something people would go to for that reason rather than something people might stumble in to on their way for a train.
Glad they started to use it for little markets which I'm sure they got the idea from me on here but struggling to think what else could work in there. But, really, how big a deal is it? It looks way better on the outside just there was fuck all in there before and there's fuck all in there now. It's hardly inconveniencing anyone is it.

You can buy food and drink literally 20 metres from the doors to the station. Absolutely no need for food outlets in the main space. More seats would be useful mind.

It would be useful for it to have maps, information boards and far better signage than it has currently. We have visiting supporters staying here most matches despite Mag attempts to divert them through there, and anyone coming to concerts, or events like the Radio 1 event or the Women's Rugby World Cup are left to guess their way.
A ticket machine would be canny. (A proper one, not the metro ones)

That’s exactly it like. The people whinging just want another opportunity to blame the council and slag off their own city a bit more. What the fuck do you want a train station to do or be? Better layout of seats and some art work and it’s absolutely fine.
I mean Christ almighty, do they even remember what it looked like before??
A florist might be a nice addition, even if it’s run by something like the Sunderland home grown charity.

They are at the other northern end, though I don't think anything in the new bit tells you that.
The ticket office is in the new bit by day. The coffee hut is canny and it's noticeably better when the market is on and there's more people around.

YEah maybe it's a lost opportunity. But that could have only come with increased routes from the station I reckon. Hardly anything to do with the council.
I think it's something everyone should just move on from. It's not that important.
Seats, signage etc can be improved so should be pushed for.

There is one on the North End and on the platform just below. Usually pick up my tickets there.

Do those ticket machine actually work, the keypads you had to try about ten times to put anything in. Pain if in hurray to catch a train. The station is nothing like the cgi render, no artwork, no big screens, sure there was a mezzanine floor too. Reminds me of a car showroom the way it is currently. Half decent metro stop but as a main railway station, its terrible.

The building itself isn’t the problem, it’s not bad looking from the outside but when you walk in it’s clear they have not put any effort or the budget budget needed, it wouldn’t take much bit of greenery sort the flow out a large departure board etc , some ideas on that article would help for a start

So the building is the problem
I had a couple of hours or so to kill there one evening before grabbing a sleeper to Berlin and had a nice little time. Popped in a chocolate shop, grabbed some bottles of Belgian beer for the journey, and sat down for a burger and drinks just outside the entrance.
Guess you can’t argue with stats (well, you can) but it seemed quite normal. I’ve certainly been in far dodgier stations elsewhere.
