Sunderland railway station.

The echo are crap like. They’ve done same article several times now. Surely they can look a bit deeper into it and interview other people linked to it?

Best wishes trying to read the article on the website

Has it been hijacked by the it’s the councils fault mob?

Compared to the old pokey little entrance which didn't look very nice at all the new glass front looks very good.

I get what people say about the platforms being dull but it is underground so it will be limited on what can be done.

Brighter walls and more lighting maybe but other than that I cannot see how to improve other than demolishing the place and starting again. With the buildings above how much would that cost.

The old Littlewoods building should have a CPO put on it by the council, the Pound Shop given notice and it should be demolished. It's one of the ugliest (if not the ugliest) buildings in Sunderland. An empty piazza type place would look better.

I'm not surprised really.

Whenever I visit a place by train I would rather go and explore the city for food, drinks and shopping.

Hanging about in a train station for longer than needed does not appeal to me no matter how nice the station is.
Transport hubs should be vibrant gateways to a town or city
Look at the stations in Europe

Apart from the odd Grand Central going to King's Cross it's not a very busy station really. Vast majority are just quickly going down for the metro. It's not like Newcastle with trains coming and going all over the place. Probably not worth opening a business in there.

Agreed to a point but not all European stations are particularly nice.

I've been to some smaller cities in Europe and the station is literally a small waiting room/ ticket booth and two railway lines outside.

The major European cities do have some grand looking stations but with the amount of passengers using these stations it will attract more investment.

Theres a lot of main stations you wouldn’t want to hang around in, or the areas around them

WH Smith moved out of the station over 20 years ago, long before the revamp.

I think PR10 was being satirical
Julie Elliott MP for Sunderland Central, said: "This is a symbolic moment for Sunderland people. We can now be proud of our point of arrival, and can look ahead with optimism as a huge programme of change rolls out across Sunderland, driving regeneration on a scale not seen for decades."

Nuff said!

I had the 'pleasure' of using Brussels-Midi, the Eurostar service station, last year. Grim and genuinely scary.

What's so scary about people sitting down drinking coffee eating croissants like?
It's a weird one like. It's an open space to stand about in before going for your train. Nice and clean and spacious. Perfectly fine for what it's for.

Is being able to sit down, charge your phone and having a place buy a sandwich and a drink still seen as a luxury?

Aye, major transport hubs are typically hotspots for crime, who knew.

While I agree it's safer to just stay in the house and watch the telly, it's still relatively unlikely that you're going to end up joining a street gang selling heroin and then be shot for muscling in on someone else's turf while you're standing about for half an hour waiting for your connecting train.
The lad confessed to being scared to walk thro Doxford park man.

Who's 'the lad'? Is that me?
