Sunderland railway station.

Had the misfortune to use it this morning bloody awful - so decided to wait the 30 minutes on the platform which still has the 'lost on the Metro's' artwork! The glass wall moving figures installation looks like it's knackered or not been decommissioned properly but the general lighting has improved. Grand Central has reduced catering and the wi-fi has given up but at least it turned up.
Our previous MP spent - according to her - 14 years working very hard to achieve this, I think she must have a different definition of working hard and achievement to me.

She (Julie Elliot) did little to improve Sunderland’s connectivity.

I approached her years (2018/9) ago to point out that there were rail franchises - especially Cross Country - coming up for tender and asked her to lobby for Sunderland to be included.

We had a couple of meetings in which she avoided giving an answer or taking action.

That whole area of the town needs something doing about the people who hang around there. The bit of the old market square from the Halifax to the station really is horrible sometimes and it never used to be that bad . You shouldn’t feel uncomfortable walking in a city centre shopping area in the middle of the day !
The Council should substantially improve its anti social behaviour unit to get rid of the cronies & scratters that frequent that area.
Since Covid the Station & surrounding areas are being overrun with these people.
Last week I arrived at the new station
concourse with a bunch of them sitting together swigging a bottle of Vodka.
Not a good luck for locals & visitors.

We visited Durham last week and I noticed they had people patrolling the centre , Sunderland needs something like this around the station area definitely.

Aye they're vile. They're up and about with the larks as well. No doubt up all night on meth or someting.
That's really what lets the town down -the human filth.

Issue is you move them from the train station and they go to the bus station, you move them from the bus station and they go to where the crowtree used to be. You just move them to save one spot to ruin another, the soup kitchen does an incredible job on High Street West but they basically hang around there or behind Joplings and do little thieving missions into Greggs, I guess when the weather turns they go into the new station as its warmer. When I had my office in town they decided to camp out round there for a couple of days so we had to phone the council to clear up the needles, the blokes that came out said the council try and keep them in one area so they know where they need to clean up in the mornings and stuff, its a nightmare.

Returned yesterday evening - not a taxi in sight at the southern end of the station, couldn't see any information to where the rank might be, I thought they used to queue down to the station from the new back of Blandford Street access but it now has double yellow lines. A few others walked up to the Union Street entrance but we had a fair bit of luggage and had to phone for a taxi pick-up.

Grim yesterday. Saw two druggies flat out. One on Fawcett street then another on West wear street. Seen a few on sunniside before too. Just wasted enjoying the comfort of street furniture or the pavement.
People who own shops in town say they've had to clean up human shite from outside their premises on a morning too.
Honestly, clean up/out the ne'er-do-wells in town and it really wouldn't be a bad place at all.
I’m always amazed how early they are all up and about
No doubt if they had jobs to go to you would be able to stir them
Aye but they're quite quiet on a morning. Seems to be mid-afternoon when they start screaming and shouting at each other. Must be as the shit in their veins wears off.

Totally agree, towns only getting better just need to somehow sort the mess out and I have no idea what people would complain about tbh.

With regards to them being up early it’s because they crash out in pretty public spots around crowtree and the likes so are woken up. When they had a falling out and half ‘moved’ to bridge house they were up by 5:30am as the ring doorbell activated.

The council haven’t helped, zero options to park/pick up, on Friday 4pm I parked by the back of Lloyd’s in the side street, the yellow sniper was straight at me saying it was an instant fine to park there, wasn’t bothered that I was picking someone up and said there was nowhere to pick up by car, drove round the block a few times and waved at him every time I passed him until my pick up arrived.

I’m up in Sunderland for a few days and had the dubious pleasure of my first visit to the new station today. My wife who is not from this area said as soon as we entered the station that this is dire and an embarrassment. A vast empty space with a load of wasters hanging around.
