Sunderland railway station.

Have you seen North Tyneside council HQ? On an industrial estate and could be any office building. At least Sunderland council kept their main building in the centre of Sunderland. Saying that a few year back, City Hall might have been on Doxford international but we know better now. Know a few people who work City Hall and seem to really like it.
Gateshead moved to Bensham didn't they? Newcastle's is nowt to write home about. Demolished their previous Town Hall in Bigg Market late 60s. Same as Sunderland. South Shields kept theirs.

Again..hindsight is a wonderful thing.

I'm unsure about that, the interior was pretty much condemed across the board as bland and spartan. Sensible people time at the time just didn't say much because we assumed it was unfinished. The fact it's 7 months later and nothing has changed suggests, it actually is finished.

It's absolutely terrible if you ask me and is the last place I'd spend more than 2 minutes. I'd rather be downstairs on the platform and that's a not a compliment.

Is the space at concourse level not like that to future proof the station so they can connect to the below ground platform should any additional platforms be opened up?

Glad ive lost this debate tbh
There's a host of like minded posters who are very proud of Sunderland's railway station

Won't bother adding Durham's as they flogged it but that's very similar

All will look as crap as their 1960s and 1970s predecessors in a couple of decades

Lofthouse & Partners have just been appointed by Northern Rail to help source new tenants & pop ups at the
new Sunderland Station
[ Recent post on Linked in )
Appears this building is still owned by Northern Rail ?
Brilliant news.

It’s used as a bar by the down and outs of Sunderland

Something needs to be done about that. What a first impression for anyone visiting the city who has come by train.

Last time I used it, some youngish lad amongst the wreck heads threatened to knock me out as I unfortunately made eye contact with him. And there was two more piss heads having a full blown domestic outside the bookies opposite.

Sounds like a scumbag warehouse /holding pen

I can think of a few transport centres that have become like that, especially badly/lazily designed newer ones

Gives them a big open space to hang out without getting cold/wet
Don’t need any big ideas to get a grip on the problem, just a couple of officers walking through every couple hours.

The station looks canny.

Pleased with the investment, but a lot of the new buldings (and new bridge) look like something from the 60s/70s.
