I don't know. If they are already walking over the Wearmouth bridge, how will giving them another bridge to walk over generate extra revenue in the city ?

I have no idea but I've always thought shutting lanes on the bridge isn't great. Also adds another pint for me so well worth the money

You're not sure how making it safer and easier to visit an area could generate revenue?

There will be housing on both sides and keel Square and culture quater on one end and the stables and sol on the other, it's key to the success of both projects imo.

I’m a regular user of trains from Sunderland to London, the 05:39 LNER service to Kings X is always dead until Darlo, and every Grand Central service I get is dead on the leg between Sunderland and York / York and Sunderland.

If I need to park, I go to Durham, as parking in town early doors is a pain in the arse.

Think the reality here is, we just don’t have the demand.

I've only recently moved back to Sunderland after a couple of decades further south

I'm a regular train user and would rather not go north to go south so want to use GC if only they were more reliable.

Used them this week back from London,old borrowed carriages no WiFi no power no hot drinks

I'm not convinced there is the demand for it either unless it's down to the times I'm travelling it's not busy until York heading South and the return empties at York on the way back

You're right about parking it's an issue ,St Mary's doesn't open until 6am ,Bridges is 7am I believe and as far as I know Sunnyside is the only useable one as it's 24 hrs

Vox pop about it on BBC this morning in Sunderland. Someone said 'It should have been the same as the one through Newcastle, much better train station'...easy fix then, knock the new one down and get the Victorians to rebuild it

If it didn’t face objections from the body empowered as the ‘public transport authority’ for Wearside, it (or another operator) would have added more services and destinations to date.

The fact that Wearsiders’ council taxes are used to prevent additional direct rail services for Wearside is a disgrace.

Most of them used borrowed carriages. Operators don’t purchase a lot of rolling stock

That's good to know and one of the reasons I'd rather use GC than going to Newcastle or Durham and getting the LNER

I've found GC very unreliable though and sadly had a reputation for cancelled services.

If I need to be in London for a certain time , I doubt I would risk GC as I'm into double figures for cancelled trains.

I would love to use then more and always a busy service
